Current or recently graduated HC students will talk about their experience with their thesis process. Bring your questions about how they found their topic, managed their time, completed their research and wrote a thesis. This panel is open to any HC student, regardless of where they are at in their thesis project. The Thesis Panel will be on Tues, Apr.\u00a015\u00a0at 4 p.m. in LInC 343 or online<\/a><\/strong>! The Annual Honors College Spring Gala is happening Fri, May 9\u00a0<\/strong>this year and will be held in the CH2M HILL Alumni Center<\/strong>. The theme this year is western chic with a special appearance from the OSU Western Line Dance Club! So put on your cowboy boots and come celebrate the end of another amazing year with the Honors College! NEW! <\/strong>Participants wanted for survey on food insecurity<\/strong>
Honors student researcher Roman Quick is seeking students to participate as volunteers in his thesis research on food insecurity. From Quick, “this is an optional survey on the food programs and strategies utilized by the OSU student population. It includes general questions as well as questions about your familiarity with food programs and strategies. Honors student researcher Niki Raj is seeking students to participate as volunteers in her thesis research on “Vaping Perceptions among College Students.” From Raj, “this is a 15\u201320-minute survey that allows us to observe trends among different demographics regarding topics such as quitting, exposure to vaping products, emotions\/feelings vaping, etc.” Participants’ names will be kept confidential and completition will receive a $5 cold stone or amazon gift card<\/strong>. Honors College Alumni Pathways Conversation on Following Your Own Career Path After Graduation with Kenan Heppe, \u201911<\/strong>
All Honors College students are invited to an Honors College Alumni Pathways remote conversation on Following Your Own Career Path After Graduation with honors alum Kenan Heppe, \u201911, on Mon, Apr. 21 from 4:00-4:50 p.m. PDT over Zoom<\/strong>. Kenan is known online as \u201cThe Chinese Tones Guy,\u201d with over a billion views of his Mandarin Chinese videos that both educate and entertain. In China, he’s known for being one of the only Western actors to land a lead role in a Chinese feature film (you can also see him as Mike Evans, the lead antagonist in the original Chinese version of The Three Body Problem, called “Three-Body,” on Amazon Prime). His talents and skills have taken him all over the world, but his background hasn’t always been performance. He graduated from Oregon State in 2011 with an Honors Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, and he was the first student in over 16 years to graduate with a 4.0 GPA in that major. Kenan believes OSU’s campus, courses and community helped him take advantage of the necessary skills to fuel his dreams. Sign up to volunteer for Earth Saturday of Service!<\/strong>
The Honors College is partnering with Community Engagement & Leadership for a service project this spring! Join us on Saturday, April 26<\/strong>, for the Earth Saturday of Service<\/strong>, where we\u2019ll help with Garden and Greenhouse Care<\/strong> at the Corvallis Waldorf School. Volunteers will weed, prune and mulch native plant beds and garden paths to support the school\u2019s outdoor spaces. Spots are reserved for Honors College students, but space is limited! If you are interested in participating, please either sign up by emailing Taylor Maki (makit@oregonstate.edu) or by scanning the QR code on our posters in the SLUG, Honors College LINC classrooms, or in West and Sackett Halls. Dean and Friends Lunch on Multidisciplinary Collaboration in Artistic Projects and Installations with award-winning public artist Larry Kirkland<\/strong>
All Honors College students are invited to a Dean and Friends lunch on multidisciplinary collaboration in artistic projects and installations with Larry Kirkland, \u201972, on Tues, Apr. 29<\/strong> from noon-12:50 p.m. PDT in LinC 345 and over Zoom<\/strong>. Larry is one of the leading public artists in the world today. He has collaborated with design professionals and community leaders to create art works to honor individuals, places, communities and events at locations across the world. He has created works for the Brown University Alpert School of Medicine; Pennsylvania Station in New York City; the University of Iowa Children\u2019s Hospital; the California Museum of Science in Los Angeles; several federal courthouses; the American Red Cross Headquarters; the National Academies of Science in Washington D.C.; Putra World Trade Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Hong Kong Central Station; and Kansai International Airport in Osaka, Japan. His memorials include works at the Civil Rights Garden in Atlantic City, the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial in Washington D.C., the Southwestern Pennsylvania World War II Memorial, and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta. His most recent work was a waterfront park on the Columbia River in Vancouver, Washington, completed in 2018, and he is currently creating a Peace Corps Commemorative Park adjacent to the U.S. Capitol. He has extensive work on public art selection and review panels, as well, and has written several art master plans. For his work, he\u2019s received a fellowship from the National Endowment of the Arts and alumni recognition from Oregon State University. Larry graduated from the Oregon State University honors program that preceded the current Honors College with a degree in art. For this special Dean and Friends lunch conversation, Larry will discuss the collaborations between engineers, construction managers, artisans, researchers, writers, landscape architects, architects, lighting designers, and more that have been behind his projects, focusing on selected examples. The Faculty Research Showcases are an excellent way to connect with faculty members, learn more about their research and potentially get involved in projects that could be the basis of an HC thesis. Even if you don\u2019t yet feel ready to begin research or are not sure about your interests, attending these events helps you to explore opportunities and make connections. Corvallis students are expected to join in person. Submit Creative Works to the NCHC Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creativity Activity<\/strong>
UReCA: The NCHC Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creativity Activity welcomes your research and creative submissions before June 1<\/strong>. UReCA is sponsored by the National Collegiate Honors Council, and is currently managed, edited and produced by a team of twenty-nine undergraduate students from each of the NCHC regions and a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. NEW! <\/strong>Volunteer with Global Medical Brigades in Guatemala in December<\/strong>
Global Medical Brigades at Oregon State University is a student organization that works in partnership with Global Brigades, a nonprofit health and sustainable development organization. Since 2004, Global Brigades has mobilized tens of thousands of university students and professionals through skill-based programs that work in partnership with community members, improving the quality of life in under-resourced regions while respecting local cultures. Inspiring, mobilizing, and collaborating with communities to achieve their own health and economic goals, Global Brigades hosts medical clinics and economic development programs in Honduras, Panama, Ghana, Guatemala, Greece, and Belize. Our Oregon State chapter will be working in Guatemala during Winter Break, December 14-20, 2025<\/strong>. Join our brigade and help deliver a healthier future to underserved communities in the region. We meet Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in STAG 111<\/strong>. THIS WEEK! Honors College Differential Tuition Scholarship<\/strong>
The Honors College recognizes that paying the differential tuition associated with HC enrollment can present a significant challenge. The Honors College Differential Tuition Scholarship is designed to make sure that students who are fully engaged with their HC education are not forced to withdraw due to the cost of enrollment in the college. Supported by donations from the Honors College community, Differential Tuition Scholarships are for $750-$1,560 for one academic year. The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. on Mon, Apr. 14<\/strong>. All students who wish to be considered for a 2025-2026 continuing student scholarship in the Honors College should apply to the Differential Tuition Scholarship through ScholarDollars. Only returning and continuing Honors College students who are making progress toward completion of Honors College degree requirements are eligible to receive a scholarship. Oregon Space Grant Consortium (OSGC) 2024-25 Dr. Nancy Squires Memorial Academic Achievement Awards Call for Applications<\/strong>
The Oregon NASA Space Grant Consortium is pleased to release the Oregon Space Grant Consortium (OSGC) 2024-25 Dr. Nancy Squires Memorial Academic Achievement Awards Call for Applications. The Achievement Award is to honor Nancy Squires, who enthusiastically shared her passion for aerospace with all and inspired countless students to pursue a career in STEM. The following achievement awards programs are available for OSU students:
Undergraduate Achievement Award – $3,000
STEM Pre-Service Educator Achievement Award (MAT or MSEd students) – $5,000
Awards will be made in the following six categories:
STEM Education: Preparation to be a classroom teacher or an informal educator in a STEM field
Life Science: Includes biology, anatomy, astrobiology, zoology, botany, microbiology, physiology, biochemistry, neuroscience, and other related areas

Honors College Emergency Grant<\/strong>
The Honors College Emergency Grant<\/a> supports students facing unexpected expenses, including housing, meals, course materials, healthcare, vehicle repairs, and travel for family emergencies. Grants are up to $500 per term, with a limit of two grants during your time in the HC. Honors College differential tuition is not covered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HC Experiential Learning Scholarship<\/u><\/strong>
The Honors College Experiential Learning Scholarship supports student engagement in the honors thesis (thesis proposal required), attendance at professional or academic conferences, payment of non-tuition fees associated with honors courses, or participation in an honors study abroad program. Applications are reviewed based on need, and the maximum award is $750. See here<\/a> for additional information. Applications can be submitted through ScholarDollars and evaluated on a rolling basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Become a student ambassador for the Oregon NASA Space Grant Consortium<\/strong>
Oregon Space Grant will select up to four (4) undergraduate students to serve as the face and voice of OSGC and share NASA\u2019s commitment to STEM education through public outreach events. The program is open to OSU students in a broad range of disciplines, including, but not limited to, communication, education, marketing, and traditional STEM fields like engineering, mathematics, earth sciences, chemistry, biology, food science, and computer science. Up to four awards of $7,500 per award will be awarded in the 2025-26 Student Ambassador program, contingent upon funding from NASA Office of STEM Engagement.

OSU Student Energy Analyst Position<\/strong>
Would you be interested in an on-campus job working with industry clients to reduce energy use and improve productivity, while applying what you are learning in your classes? The OSU Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) is looking for motivated student energy\/technical analysts to work part-time during the school year (10-15 hrs\/week) and during the summer (30-40 hrs\/week).<\/strong> The OSU EEC offers comprehensive, student-led, on-site energy and productivity assessments to small and medium-sized manufacturers through a US Department of Energy funded program. Student teams advised by engineering faculty visit manufacturers and seek ways to increase their productivity and reduce energy use and waste. These engineering analyses and improvement recommendations are compiled into a report and delivered to the client. University Legislative Scholars Applications Open<\/strong>
The University Legislative Scholars (ULS) program offers a year-long opportunity to engage with public policy at the state and federal levels. Diversity & Cultural Engagement will be holding the grand opening to celebrate the new building! NEW! Holocaust Memorial Week at Oregon State University from Apr. 21-25<\/strong>
April 21st to 25th<\/strong> marks the 38th annual observance of Holocaust Memorial Week at Oregon State University. This year\u2019s events explore both past and present challenges to democracy and human rights, while also honoring the inspiring resilience and recovery efforts undertaken by communities targeted for genocidal destruction. The week begins with a talk \u201cFrom Holocaust to Hope\u201d<\/strong> on Mon, Apr. 21 at PRAx, Detrick Hall <\/strong>by Dr. Irene Butter, a survivor and refugee of the Holocaust who became a tireless peace activist. The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy.
