Starting this Monday <\/strong>come meet other students, volunteer, practice leadership, plan events or get involved with the Honors College this fall! The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. in LInC 368<\/strong>. NEW! Honors Section of DSI 415: Multidisciplinary Design for Social Impact<\/u><\/strong>
Earn upper-division honors credit and work on a potential thesis project in DSI 415H<\/strong> this fall! This course, part of the new Design for Social Impact (DSI) Certificate<\/strong>, offers hands-on experience with external clients to solve real-world challenges through multidisciplinary teamwork. No prerequisites are required this year<\/strong>, and it\u2019s a great fit if you\u2019re interested in sustainability, business, social justice, or innovation. This annual tradition is a chance for the entire Honors College community to celebrate the start of the academic year. UPCOMING! Campus Visit: Javier Zamora<\/strong>
This year\u2019s Honors College Summer Read is Solito, by Javier Zamora. On October 16<\/strong>, the author will be on campus for an evening event at PRAx, OSU\u2019s new Center for the Creative Arts. \u201cA Conversation with Javier Zamora\u201d (with Professor Joel Zapata) will be open to the entire OSU and Corvallis community. It\u2019s free, but you need to get a ticket.<\/strong><\/a> HC students are also invited to a Q&A with the author at 4:00 p.m. on October 16, in LINC 128, moderated by Professor Ana Ribero. If you\u2019re interested in reading the book, there are copies at Course Reserves in Valley Library through fall term\u2014three copies in English and one copy in Spanish. Just go to the Reserves desk and ask for the Honors College summer read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW!\u00a0Oregon Consular Corps (OCC)\u00a0Scholarship Fund application currently\u00a0available on ScholarDollars<\/u><\/strong>
The\u00a0Oregon Consular Corps (OCC) Scholarship Fund<\/a>\u00a0provides two $3,000 scholarships for OSU undergraduate students who have an international focus.\u00a0Any 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0or 4th<\/sup>\u00a0year undergraduate student who can articulate the international dimensions of their major and\/or their international career goals after graduation can apply.\u00a0<\/strong>The scholarship application is currently\u00a0open\u00a0in\u00a0ScholarDollars<\/a>\u00a0and <\/a>closes on November 1st, 2024.\u00a0<\/u><\/strong>Students must be 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0or 4th<\/sup>\u00a0year class standing (90+ quarter credit hours), studying full time in 2024-25, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant & Experiential Learning Scholarship applications now available on ScholarDollars<\/u><\/strong>
All current Honors College students can apply<\/a>\u00a0for the Honors College Experiential Learning Scholarship to support travel to professional conferences, thesis research, costs associated with enrollment in Honors College courses and participation in HC international opportunities. Applications are available through ScholarDollars. Students with financial hardships can also apply for the one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $520, with eligibility for two grants during their time in the HC. HC Experiential Award Application<\/u><\/strong>
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to\u00a0apply<\/a>\u00a0<\/a>for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. NEW!<\/strong> SCARC Oral History Program Assistant Job Opportunity<\/u><\/strong>
The Special Collections and Archives Research Center (SCARC) is seeking applicants for a student assistant position to provide support for the SCARC Oral History Program<\/a>. A primary focus for this fully remote position<\/em><\/strong> will be reviewing and editing oral history interview transcripts created by professional transcriptionists as well as the Whisper AI speech recognition tool. No specialized experience is required; all training will be provided upon hire. Research Opportunity with the GEMM Lab<\/strong>
Interested in marine biology? The GEMM Lab is seeking a motivated student to join their research on gray whales off the Oregon coast! You’ll analyze photographs to assess whale injuries from entanglements, vessel strikes, or orca attacks, as well as study a growing skin disease. This work will help improve understanding of human impacts on gray whales. The position offers experience in data management, photo-identification, and statistical analysis. University Legislative Scholars Applications Open<\/strong>
The University Legislative Scholars (ULS) program offers a year-long opportunity to engage with public policy at the state and federal levels. The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. Honors College student learning space<\/strong>
The Honors College student learning space, the SLUG, opens Tuesday, September 24th. Located in Learning Innovation Center 340, the SLUG offers students study spaces, snacks and free printing. Hours are 7:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursdays, 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Friday, noon-6:00 p.m. Saturday and 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Sunday. For the first weeks, there will be minor renovations in the SLUG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Need a way to deepen your understanding of course material, discuss challenging concepts and study for upcoming exams and assignments with your fellow beavs? The Honors College is back with a \u201cForgot Your Lunch?\u201d station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Campus opportunity: <\/strong>
Finishing up your research\/ thesis but don\u2019t know how to talk about it. College of AgSci is hosting a workshop about how to create a poster and give an elevator pitch. This can be helpful for the HC thesis external communication requirement.
