THIS WEEK!\u00a0How the Court System Affects You More than You Think \u2013 A Dean and Friends Lunch Conversation with Judge Mary Deits Rousseau (rescheduled event)<\/u><\/strong>
<\/span>All Honors College students are invited to a special Dean and Friends lunch conversation with Judge Mary Deits Rousseau on \u201cHow the Court System Affects You More than You Think\u201d on Friday, April 12th from noon-12:50 p.m. in LInC 345<\/strong>. Judge Rousseau was named an Honors College Alumni Fellow by the Oregon State University Alumni Association in 2023 and is a member of the Honors College Board of Regents, the college\u2019s leadership advisory group. After graduating from the honors program at Oregon State in 1971, she became the second woman to serve on the Oregon Court of Appeals and one of the first in the country to be a Chief Judge of a state Court of Appeals. At this discussion, she\u2019ll share reflections on how the courts affect us all in our everyday lives and how the role of the courts is changing. NEW!\u00a0Pick up your HC Regalia at the Graduation Fair<\/strong>
<\/span>If you plan to attend commencement and you didn\u2019t pre-order your Honors College Regalia last fall, do not worry! During the Graduation Fair on Tuesday, April 16\u00a0<\/strong>and Wednesday, April 17\u00a0from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.<\/strong>, we\u2019ll have extra HC stoles and research cords at the HC table in the BeaverStore<\/strong>. You\u2019ll be able to pick up a cap(tam or mortarboard) and gown from the Jostens table. For an idea of prices and to learn more about HC Regalia, please review the information here<\/a>. Note \u2013 If you can\u2019t make it to the Grad Fair on those days, you\u2019ll be able to buy your HC regalia from the bookstore from the 18th of April. <\/span>The Honors College invites participation from all honors students in an HC Student Leadership Circle spring project. The SLC advises staff and leadership on the development, implementation and assessment of initiatives, programs and opportunities. Students can sign up to contribute to one of the following two spring term projects here<\/a>:

HC Differential Tuition Scholarship<\/u><\/strong>
The HC Differential Tuition Scholarship<\/a> application will be opening on Friday, March 15th and will remain open until Tuesday, April 16th<\/strong>. All current HC students are eligible to apply. This scholarship will cover all or part of the Honors Differential tuition. Please apply through ScholarDollars<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant<\/u><\/strong>
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply<\/a> for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu<\/a> or an Honors College advisor<\/a> with questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HC Experiential Award Application<\/u><\/strong>
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to apply<\/a> for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. THIS WEEK!\u00a0College of Agricultural Science Undergraduate Research<\/strong>
<\/span>The College of Ag is currently accepting applications for the Continuing Researcher Support Program<\/a>. This program provides up to $1700 to undergraduate students with prior research experience<\/strong> who are seeking support to conduct a semi-independent research project with a College of AgSci faculty member<\/strong>. Projects can be conducted in summer term ($700 award), academic year (fall, winter, spring – $1000 award), or full year ($1700 award). The deadline to apply is Friday, April 12<\/strong>. Questions? NEW!\u00a0Veterinary Medicine\u00a0Networking and Career Speaker Event\u00a0<\/strong>
<\/span>The Pre-Veterinary Medical Association at Oregon State\u00a0will be providing an opportunity for both college and high school students\u00a0to learn and network with professionals and students\u00a0in the veterinary field\u00a0on Saturday, April 13th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.<\/strong> Our club will be holding a conference-style event at Magruder Hall<\/strong>\u00a0with veterinarians from various specialties, backgrounds, and places in Oregon. We will be hearing from doctors who specialize in wildlife medicine, small animal emergency, equine dentistry, laboratory animal medicine, and rural veterinary practice. OSU Energy Efficiency Center is Hiring<\/u><\/strong>
Would you be interested in an on-campus job working with industry clients to reduce energy use and improve productivity, while applying what you are learning in your classes? The OSU Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) is looking for motivated student energy analysts to work part-time during the school year (10-20 hrs\/week) and during the summer (~40 hrs\/week). The OSU EEC offers comprehensive, student-led, on-site energy and productivity assessments to small and medium-sized manufacturers through a US Department of Energy funded program. Student teams advised by engineering faculty visit manufacturers and seek ways to increase their productivity and reduce energy use and waste. THIS WEEK!\u00a0Interfaith Dialogues: Religion and Social Change (April 11 topic: Climate Change)<\/u><\/strong>
<\/span>Eliza Young Barstow, Senior Instructor of Religious Studies, invites you to a series of panels featuring a diverse collection of religious leaders from the Willamette Valley who have agreed to gather and discuss challenging social issues. The sessions will be panel discussions, with questions asked by Dr. Barstow. Towards the end of each session, there will be time for audience questions. These panels are funded by a grant from Interfaith America. The next panel will take place on Thursday, April 11 from 6 – 8 p.m. in the Journey Room of the Memorial Union<\/strong>. April 11\u2019s theme is climate change, and audience members will get to learn how people from six different religions think about human responsibility to the earth and its creatures.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW!\u00a0Engineers Without Borders \u2013 Spring Celebration Dinner<\/u><\/strong>
<\/span>Are you an honors college student interested in serving the international community through problem solving? Engineers Without Borders at OSU is a student run organization open to students of all majors with a passion for creating change in the world. This year, we are holding a celebration dinner on Saturday, April 20th, at 6:00\u00a0p.m. in the MU Horizon Room<\/strong>\u00a0to talk about the progress our program has made in Cambodia and Nicaragua. The dinner will be catered by the university with dishes inspired by our partner communities. Beaver Freezer Triathlon Volunteering Opportunity\u00a0<\/u><\/strong>
On Saturday, Apr.\u00a020<\/strong>, the Oregon State Triathlon Club is hosting the Beaver Freezer Triathlon in front of Dixon Recreation Center! To make this race run smoothly, we need as many volunteers as possible. That means that we need YOU! We have many opportunities for volunteers and no experience is required. Anyone is welcome!
