<\/strong>All Honors College students are invited to a virtual Dean and Friends conversation with OSU alum Jan Matsuno \u201979 on \u201cMaking Change your Friend: How to Bend in the Wind without Falling Over\u201d on Friday, Feb. 25 at 12 p.m. over Zoom.<\/strong> Jan graduated in food science and technology and has a lifetime of product development experience in the food and beverage industry, including work at Del Monte Foods, Safeway, and CCD Innovation. She\u2019s been involved in the development of thousands of products and has consulted with companies around the world for 15 years. Jan is a member of the \u201cinaugural class\u201d of Certified Food Scientists, a designation for global food professionals who possess the specialized and applied scientific knowledge to address the technical challenges of safe food production. She is currently the founding food scientist of Mindful Food Consulting, providing technical expertise to food companies, and she has been working to launch her own brand of convenient healthy meals called Yumbini. At this Dean and Friends conversation, she will discuss lessons she has learned in working to develop and launch her own food line. Thesis Survey about Outdoor Recreation<\/strong>
Jensen Davis is currently surveying students about their time spent participating in outdoor activities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This study, Outdoor recreation rates during COVID-19 quarantine, hopes to look at how people have changed their recreation habits over the past year to better predict how to manage recreation areas in the future. The survey found here<\/a> will only take 5-10 minutes and will help Davis with their thesis!

A remote public talk by Vershawn Ashanti Young, University of Waterloo professor of English language and literature with a specialization in African American studies. Young will discuss the ways that teachers and the public in both the U.S. and Canada have misappropriated the linguistic concept of code-switching as it applies to both Black language and standard language speakers. The Valley Library is partnering with the national non-profit AfroCROWD for the editathon, which will focus on improving existing Wikipedia articles and creating new articles. This annual concert to raise awareness of vocal and choral scholarships at Oregon State will feature the Oregon State University Chamber Choir, Meistersingers and Bella Voce choirs. The free program includes a tribute to Black History Month with songs by Black composers and will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25 at the First United Methodist Church, 1175 NW Monroe St., Corvallis.<\/strong> Venue capacity will be reduced to allow for social distancing. Admission requires masks and proof of COVID vaccination along with a valid photo ID. This venue does not accept proof of a test in lieu of a COVID vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\nScholarship and Financial Aid Opportunities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
<\/strong>The OSU Advantage Accelerator is seeking applications for projects that further develop technologies invented by OSU faculty, staff, and\/or graduate students in any research discipline. Applications should indicate how the project will move the technology closer to commercialization and will be accepted now through Monday, Feb. 28<\/strong>. Each project may be awarded up to $15,000 and should span 9 months or less, beginning in April 2022. <\/strong>Funding can be used to fund student time, gather additional data, pay for prototyping expenses (materials and supplies), customer discovery, and more. Award recipients are required to participate in the OSU Accelerate program (9 week virtual program offered April \u2013 June 2022) in order to receive training and guidance with respect to tech commercialization. Successful projects are eligible to receive additional funding. More information is available here<\/a>. Applicant teams who are selected for an AID award will receive an initial $5,000 of funding for activities that may not require access to OSU facilities. Following a team\u2019s successful participation in the Spring 2022 virtual Accelerate program (April \u2013 June), the remaining $10,000 of funding may be awarded and may be used for R&D activities as outlined in the project budget, subject to OSU facility availability. This scholarship honors and recognizes OSU undergraduates who are community engaged leaders actively involved in activities beyond course work and who have demonstrated that they are committed to advancing a more caring, equitable, and socially just OSU and\/or local community. Current OSU undergraduate students who have completed at least one year of enrollment at any OSU campus, or another college or university (2-year or 4-year) are eligible to apply. OSU Campus Recycling will be conducting a large waste audit later this term and is looking for help. In order to get a detailed look at the types of waste the university generates teams of volunteers will sort waste from OSU dumpsters to different waste streams (cardboard, wood, metal, plastic, etc.). Campus Recycling will use the data we collect to identify opportunities for waste reduction and diversion. This project is an excellent opportunity to engage in hands-on sustainability assessment; the work done by volunteers will directly inform OSU waste management strategies. Volunteers will be provided proper safety equipment and on-site training before taking part in the audit. The OSU Sustainability Office<\/a> is looking to fill two positions with three people who are passionate about the sustainability of their university. They are hiring two students to be Energy Project interns. This position supports energy efficiency and sustainability projects, gathers energy data, and helps maintain OSU\u2019s solar arrays. This HYPER program addresses challenges in aerospace travel and energy production, advancing the fundamental knowledge needed to overcome technical barriers limiting hypersonic flight. The 10-week program will be held this summer from May 22 until July 30 2022.<\/strong> Participants will gain hands-on research training in challenges such as utilizing advanced manufacturing techniques for high-value components, integrating in-site monitoring of stress-strain evolution, developing novel methods for improved internal cooling and heat transfer effectiveness, and mitigating flutter through advanced rotor dynamic control. Many of these challenges rely on approaches that cut across disciplines and research techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This summer, Boise State is pleased to announce an NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates in Advanced Manufacturing. Funding for this program comes from Boise State University, and the program will be held on-site at Idaho National Laboratory and the Center for Advanced Energy Studies in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The OSU Triathlon Club is looking for volunteers to help with this year’s Beaver Freezer Triathlon, happening Saturday, April 16, at the Dixon Rec Center.<\/strong> Beaver Freezer is a yearly fundraiser race that allows community members and students to race around campus.Volunteers will help direct people through the race, hand out water cups, and cheer the racers on.
