Kirsten (she\/her) graduated from OSU in natural resources and is currently a multimodal, transit, and rail safety and security specialist who helps transit agencies across the United States move people of all identities and needs safely and securely. In addition to her honors degree, she has a master\u2019s degree from the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management, and she has previously worked in ecosystem services and environmental justice. Jan is a member of the \u201cinaugural class\u201d of Certified Food Scientists, a designation for global food professionals who possess the specialized and applied scientific knowledge to address the technical challenges of safe food production. She is currently the founding food scientist of Mindful Food Consulting, providing technical expertise to food companies, and she has been working to launch her own brand of convenient healthy meals called Yumbini. This study, Outdoor recreation rates during COVID-19 quarantine, hopes to look at how people have changed their recreation habits over the past year to better predict how to manage recreation areas in the future. Harris Black Cultural Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Black Lives Matter in Academic Spaces: Three Lessons in Critical Literacy<\/strong><br>&nbsp;A remote public talk by Vershawn Ashanti Young, University of Waterloo professor of English language and literature with a specialization in African American studies. Young will discuss the ways that teachers and the public in both the U.S. and Canada have misappropriated the linguistic concept of code-switching as it applies to both Black language and standard language speakers.&nbsp;<strong>This is a virtual event&nbsp;being held from 12-1:30 p.m. on&nbsp;Thursday, Feb. 24. Training is provided at the beginning of the event. There will be an in-person event at the Valley Library and a virtual event simultaneously from 2-5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25. The free program includes a tribute to Black History Month with songs by Black composers and will take place at&nbsp;<strong>7:30 p.m. on&nbsp;Friday, Feb. 25&nbsp;at the First United Methodist Church, 1175 NW Monroe St., Corvallis.<\/strong>&nbsp;Venue capacity will be reduced to allow for social distancing. Admission requires masks and proof of COVID vaccination along with a valid photo ID. This venue does not accept proof of a test in lieu of a COVID vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"scholarship-and-financial-aid-opportunities\" style=\"color:#d73f09\">Scholarship and Financial Aid Opportunities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NEW! OSU Advantage Accelerator Project Funding<br><\/strong>The OSU Advantage Accelerator is seeking applications for projects that further develop technologies invented by OSU faculty, staff, and\/or graduate students in any research discipline. Applications should indicate how the project will move the technology closer to commercialization and will be accepted&nbsp;<strong>now through Monday, Feb. 28<\/strong>.&nbsp;<strong>Each project may be awarded up to $15,000 and should span 9 months or less, beginning in April 2022.&nbsp;<\/strong>Funding can be used to fund student time, gather additional data, pay for prototyping expenses (materials and supplies), customer discovery, and more. Award recipients are required to participate in the OSU Accelerate program (9 week virtual program offered April \u2013 June 2022) in order to receive training and guidance with respect to tech commercialization. Successful projects are eligible to receive additional funding. The ScholarDollars application gives you an opportunity to share the specifics of your situation.<br>&#8211; OSU awarded more than $66 million in scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year.&nbsp;<br>&#8211; The FAFSA is how you access all types of federal aid, including grants, loans and work study. Only students with a signed thesis proposal on file with the Honors College are eligible to receive this scholarship&nbsp;and the scholarship must support engagement in thesis research. The maximum award is $750, which will be paid to recipients at the beginning of spring term.
