TODAY! Ice Cream Social with HCSA <\/strong>
Looking for an opportunity to meet other students and get involved with the Honors College this winter? Join us every Monday to learn more about the Honors College Student Association and enjoy some ice cream! The HSCA holds general meetings every Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. in LInC 345.<\/strong> All HC students are welcome to join! Join us for this HCSA Professional Development opportunity! This event will be a panel with upperclassmen and graduate students that give first and second year students (honors and non-honors) an opportunity to ask questions regarding undergrad research, working while in college, how to manage time successfully, life after undergrad and more. Volunteer for the Linn Benton Food Drive!<\/strong>
Throughout the month of February the different colleges at Oregon State have a competition as to which college can collect the most canned food and dry packaged goods for the Linn Benton Food Share. The Honors College is putting on several different events including a penny way competition in the honors dorms, weekend tabling outside of Safeway, a Krispy Kreme fundraiser and bag\/box drops around neighborhoods in Corvallis! We are in need as many volunteers as we can get to help sit at donation tables, collect bags, advertise, write thank you’s and much more! If you are interested in volunteering for any of these events or want to learn more about the different volunteer positions available, please reach out to bryankel@oregonstate.edu<\/a>. <\/strong>This event is so important to the communities around us, and OSU is one of the largest contributors to the Linn Benton Food Share in the state! Forgot Your Lunch Program Changes<\/strong>
We’ve made some changes to the Forgot Your Lunch food cabinet! Our hope is to offer an opportunity for students to grab a free lunch if they need it, so stop by to make a sandwich, eat some oatmeal, or grab some soup. Please be sure to only grab one lunch per day so there is enough for everyone! The Forgot Your Lunch is still located in the SLUG Kitchen cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HC is currently accepting nominations for students to feature in their Student Spotlight <\/a>series<\/a>. If you know of a student who you think deserves recognition for their studies, research, service or a specific area of interest please submit their name and the reason for the nomination here<\/a>. The honors college willcontact selected students for permission and to schedule a short interview. Self-nominations are welcome!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thesis Survey about Outdoor Recreation<\/strong>
Jensen Davis is currently surveying students about their time spent participating in outdoor activities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This study, Outdoor recreation rates during COVID-19 quarantine, hopes to look at how people have changed their recreation habits over the past year to better predict how to manage recreation areas in the future. The survey found here<\/a> will only take 5-10 minutes and will help Davis with their thesis!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scholarship and Financial Aid Opportunities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Honors College DeLoach Scholarship<\/strong>
All current HC students who will be working on their thesis research during spring and\/or summer terms 2022 are invited to apply for the Honors College DeLoach Work Scholarship<\/a>. Only students with a signed thesis proposal on file with the Honors College are eligible to receive this scholarship and the scholarship must support engagement in thesis research. The maximum award is $750, which will be paid to recipients at the beginning of spring term. To apply, submit a copy of your signed thesis proposal and a one-page application letter to honors.college@oregonstate.edu<\/a>by midnight on Sunday, Feb. 20 2022<\/strong>. 2022 Schoenstein Sustaining Excellence Scholarship<\/strong>
This scholarship honors and recognizes OSU undergraduates who are community engaged leaders actively involved in activities beyond course work and who have demonstrated that they are committed to advancing a more caring, equitable, and socially just OSU and\/or local community. Current OSU undergraduate students who have completed at least one year of enrollment at any OSU campus, or another college or university (2-year or 4-year) are eligible to apply.  Applications via Scholar Dollars<\/a> are due by Tuesday, Feb. 15. In 2022 five students will be awarded a one-time scholarship in the amount of $2,000<\/strong>. Jason Halstead and Robert Chapman Scholarship Fund<\/strong>

SNAP Outreach at the HSRC<\/strong>
Students may be eligible for $234 a month in grocery funds! SNAP is a federal nutrition benefits program, and the Human Services Resource Center at Oregon State assists with applications! For more information visit the SNAP link here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honors College Experiential Award Application<\/strong>
Honors students participating in professional conferences or in need of financial support for research expenses related to their thesis can apply for an Honors Experiential Scholarship. The application can be found here<\/a>. Only applicants who have submitted a signed thesis proposal to the Honors College are eligible for research expense support. The maximum award is $750, and all awards are paid as scholarships to recipients\u2019 OSU accounts. Contact Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu<\/a> with questions.

Udall Scholarship<\/strong>
The Udall Foundation<\/a> awards scholarships of $7,000 to college sophomores and juniors on the basis of their leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to American Indian nations or to the environment. Please contact LeAnn Adam, Director of National and Global Scholarships Advising, at LeAnn.Adam@oregonstate.edu<\/a> to discuss your interest in applying. The OSU campus deadline is Tuesday,<\/strong> Feb. 1<\/strong>. However it is recommended that you start applying now. 

Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant<\/strong>
The Honors College recognizes that these may continue to be challenging times for Honors College students and their families. We encourage students who are experiencing difficulty paying the costs associated with Honors College enrollment to apply<\/a> for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant ($500). Determinations will be made on a rolling basis and will consider both need and the likelihood of earning the Honors Baccalaureate. See the application<\/a> for additional information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW! Summer 2022 REU at the University of Central Florida Program<\/strong> 
This HYPER program addresses challenges in aerospace travel and energy production, advancing the fundamental knowledge needed to overcome technical barriers limiting hypersonic flight. The 10-week program will be held this summer from May 22 until July 30 2022.<\/strong> Participants will gain hands-on research training in challenges such as utilizing advanced manufacturing techniques for high-value components, integrating in-site monitoring of stress-strain evolution, developing novel methods for improved internal cooling and heat transfer effectiveness, and mitigating flutter through advanced rotor dynamic control. Many of these challenges rely on approaches that cut across disciplines and research techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this program you will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Conduct hands-on research guided directly by a faculty mentor and their graduate student(s)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Interact with a diverse multidisciplinary team of researchers<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Visit the NASA Kennedy Space Center and various aerospace companies<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Participate in professional development workshops<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Gain in-depth training on numerical simulation software ANSYS<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Prepare for graduate school and a research-based career<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Engage with other REU groups<\/a> located at UCF<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each HYPER REU participant will receive a summer stipend of $5,000, on-campus housing, and a travel allowance to and from Orlando, Florida. Boise State University Research Opportunity<\/strong>
This summer,  Boise State is pleased to announce an NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates in Advanced Manufacturing. Funding for this program comes from Boise State University, and the program will be held on-site at Idaho National Laboratory and the Center for Advanced Energy Studies in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Honors College Representative at the Michigan Clinical Outcomes Research and Reporting Program<\/strong>
This summer internship program is a 10-week opportunity, starting in the first week of June <\/strong>and concluding in August<\/strong>, at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. The intern participating in the program will join a diverse group of students from various schools across the country, work on a research project and experience medicine first hand. The Honors College is currently looking to hire a part-time videographer. This position is open to all current HC students, with approximately 6-8 hours per week (max. 20 hours). Soundbox 5 Artist Festival Open Call
<\/u><\/strong>Soundbox 5 is looking for new and collaborative works that demonstrate intermedia, cross-disciplinary works of art. All forms of art are welcome to participate in this interdisciplinary festival that will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 23-24.<\/strong>  Last year, Soundbox 4 brought together over 100+ participants. There was a record number of educators, community members, songwriters, video artists, engineers, sound artists, composers, animators, visual artists, and technologists who participated run this festival. This year, they are particularly interested in showcasing class projects (from all over the campus and throughout communities) that demonstrate new and adventurous creative collaborations! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join the COE Grand Challenges Program<\/strong>
Join this nationally recognized program and help contribute to the grand engineering challenges in the 21st century. The National Academy of Engineering created the Grand Challenges Scholars Program to challenge the next generation of engineers with ways to improve the globe through the themes of Health, Sustainability, Security, and Joy of Living. The closing date for the application is Monday, Feb. 14. Grow to Pro 2022<\/strong>
Grow to Pro is the Leadership Academy’s winter term flagship event. Grow to Pro focuses on engineering professional development through two important skill areas: networking and interviewing. Community Health Fellowship Gap Year<\/strong>
The Community Health Fellowship is a unique \u201cgap year\u201d opportunity for recent college graduates from across the country. The organization provides housing and a monthly educational stipend. <\/strong>Project Horseshoe Farm offers Community Health Fellowship programs in Alabama and California. This upcoming year, HSF is offering a traditional Gap-Year Fellowship, which will begin in June of 2022 and finish in July of 2023<\/strong>at Greensboro, Marion, and Pomona sites. SLUG Hours and Info!<\/strong>
The HC student learning space in the Learning Innovation Center, room 340 \u2013 called the SLUG \u2013 is open! Winter term SLUG hours:

– Sunday \u2013 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– Monday-Thursday \u2013 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– Friday \u2013 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
– Saturday \u2013 noon to 6 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SLUG features study and social areas, more than 20 computers, a scanner and a friendly HC student staff member who can help with any questions. In addition, honors students can print for free when using SLUG computers! The SLUG also offers a small kitchen. Bring your own coffee pods and brew up a cup in our new Keurig machine! The HC Forgot Your Lunch food cabinet is available as well with free snacks for anyone who needs it. All students visiting the SLUG will be expected to sign in and wear masks while using the facility.
