As we begin this year on campus, I know many of you may be experiencing a mix of emotions \u2013 excitement but also, perhaps, anxiety or concern. These remain challenging times, and even to those of us who have been in the honors community for some years, the once-familiar feels new. As you make this transition, remember that we in the Honors College are here to support you. Reach out to an honors advisor, to a peer or to me. No one has to do this alone.

The Honors College Student Leadership Circle lends a diverse student voice to college issues and advises the deans and directors on various topics affecting students and their educational and social experiences in the OSU Honors College. This year the SLC will provide feedback on high-level college strategies to confront perpetuated and reflected privilege and structural racism in the honors community and work toward a more just and better future for all. The circle will be working on initiatives that impact honors curriculum, student engagement and community building.
The HC is looking for student representatives from every undergraduate college at OSU. To be considered for selection, student applicants must be available to attend quarterly meetings and be willing to share advice and counsel to college leadership. All participants must be willing to seek input from relevant student groups and engage with other honors students as we work to enhance the well-being of members in the Honors College community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/strong>Faculty Research Showcases are an excellent way to connect with faculty members, learn more about their research and potentially get involved in projects that could be the basis of an HC thesis. Even if you don\u2019t yet feel ready to begin research or are not sure about your interests, attending these events helps you explore opportunities and make connections. <\/strong>In partnership with the OSU Honors College, the Valley Library\u2019s Special Collections and Archives Research Center<\/a> is excited to offer two Student Archivist positions in its Public Services Unit. These front-line positions will primarily focus on supporting SCARC faculty and staff in providing exceptional service to our researchers, both in person and remotely, and through work on special projects. No archives, library or other heritage institution experience is necessary, and students of all disciplines are encouraged to apply! Starting wage is $13.00\/hour. <\/strong>The Human Research Protections Program in OSU\u2019s Office of Research Integrity is looking for a student to serve as a part-time office assistant for no more than 20 hours per week. Under the direction of the HRPP Administrator, HRPP students play a critical role in office productivity. The student employee processes the majority of correspondence from researchers and ensures that the HRPP staff is made aware of new submissions for review in a timely manner. <\/strong>The in-person 2021 Part-Time Job Fair allows students interested in part-time jobs or internships to interact with local employers stationed at tables in the Student Experience Center Plaza on Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.<\/strong> Representatives from these companies accept job applications on-site and interact with students eager to seek employment. Students are encouraged to stop by between classes and during free time.
NEW! Navigating Your Identity and Culture Resource Guides
<\/strong>The OSU Career Development Center has developed six identity and culture resource guides to help students own their stories and navigate their identities. The Contemplative Studies Minor is a unique, experiential, interdisciplinary program of study applicable to a variety of professions and most importantly, to student’s own lives as they learn about, inquire into and develop their physical, spiritual\/contemplative and mental well-being. A new baccalaureate core course in cultural diversity sets the foundation for the Contemplative Studies Minor: PHL\/REL 308: Introduction to Contemplative Studies<\/a>, which will soon be added to the minor curriculum. It is offered through eCampus Fall 2021 and on the Corvallis campus in Winter 2022. Interested students can contact ContemplativeStudies@oregonstate.edu<\/a> for more information and to get involved. OSU’s Contemplative Studies Initiatives also offers Meditation as Embodied Practice, a nine-month training<\/strong>. This program is for those interested in learning a meditative arc of development through instruction, practice, readings and community. The OSU Adventure Club is founded on the principles of experiential learning, and using human-powered outdoor pursuits to expand knowledge, leadership, service and community. Join the club! No experience necessary.
This is a student-led organization formed in association with the Adventure Leadership Institute\u2122 to connect students with students through outdoor adventure. From rock climbing to snowshoeing, whitewater rafting to backpacking, the Adventure Club has it all. Participation in Adventure Club meetings, activities and events are open to currently enrolled students at OSU.
Annual membership is $10 <\/strong>for current OSU students or Rec Sports members.
The Adventure Club contributes to the educational mission of the University by offering learning opportunities for students pursuing leadership and facilitation certificates through the Adventure Leadership Institute\u2122. The Adventure Club provides a rich learning opportunity for students in the Adventure Leadership Institute to practice and apply their developing skills as leaders and facilitators of adventure pursuits. Executive positions and activity leadership is provided by members of ALI\u2122 in pursuit of leadership certificates.
