The Honors College Student Leadership Circle, in partnership with Honors College staff, is developing a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategic Plan and requests the input and involvement of all Honors College students. This work is central to both the Honors College\u2019s values and value proposition. As a college committed to serving all people in our communities, it is the HC\u2019s responsibility to create a college that is accessible to all students and provides all students with the support and experiences that will help them succeed. The HC realizes this commitment will take work, but it is work that enhances the entire community by creating opportunities to explore and encounter ideas and perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you\u2019re enrolled in an HC course this term, you\u2019ll receive a link to an honors course evaluation form in your OSU inbox this week. Please submit evaluations for all your honors courses \u2013 both the eSETs and the honors evaluations! <\/strong>Student evaluations play a big role in determining which courses we offer in the future. Based on new face covering guidelines from the Oregon Health Authority, face coverings are no longer required outdoors at OSU, unless the outdoor setting is crowded, or physical distancing cannot be maintained. <\/strong>OSU does not believe the state’s proof of vaccination requirements are workable in an open university environment where entry to facilities is not carefully controlled, and as such, OSU has shared feedback with state officials in the hopes of revising OHA requirements to be more suitable for the higher education environment. Consequently, for the time being, OSU continues to require individuals wear face coverings indoors, regardless of vaccination status.<\/strong> The updated OSU face covering policy is here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\nScholarship<\/strong> Opportunities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The Honors College recognizes that this may be a particularly challenging time for Honors College students and their families. We encourage students who are experiencing difficulty paying the costs associated with Honors College enrollment to apply<\/a> for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant. Determinations will be made on a rolling basis and will consider both need and the likelihood of earning the Honors Baccalaureate.
Inability to pay Honors College differential tuition or other costs this term should not be the primary barrier to any student’s successful graduation from the college or continuation as an honors student.<\/strong><\/strong> Approved grants may be for the full HC differential tuition (currently $500) or a portion of it and are for one-term only. Grants will not be renewed for additional terms, but students can reapply. Typically, students can only receive two Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant during their time in the Honors College. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head. The Faculty Research Assistant <\/strong>will work with professors, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in research on ecosystem dynamics in rocky intertidal communities and the nearshore ocean along the West Coast. The primary field research responsibility for this position includes working with colleagues to design, set up, maintain and terminate experiments at more than 11 field sites. Lab duties include field data entry, maintenance of data spreadsheets, keeping atop of literature pertaining to field experiments, disseminate scientific literature to seasonal research assistants, performing analyses for scientific publication, draft manuscripts for publication and presenting the latest findings at scientific meetings. This position will also perform coordination of field logistics, training and supervision of seasonal research assistants on field research, data collection and PISCO scientific protocols.
