For the <strong>entire month of&nbsp;February<\/strong>, the HC will sell their custom&nbsp;OSU Honors College stickers&nbsp;to raise money for the&nbsp;Linn Benton County Food Drive. Each dollar&nbsp;donated is equivalent to 7.5 pounds of food or 6 meals at the food pantry.&nbsp;<strong>HC stickers will be sold for $3 each <\/strong>which equals to 18 meals! HC Dean and Friends Conversation &#8211; A Career in Science Policy<br><\/strong>All Honors College students are invited to a Dean and Friends Conversation on science policy careers with Honors College alum Dr. Ariana Sutton-Grier on&nbsp;<strong>Monday, March 1<\/strong>&nbsp;from&nbsp;<strong>2:00 to 3:00 p.m.<\/strong>&nbsp;Dr. Sutton-Grier graduated from Oregon State in environmental science and international studies in 2000 and received her Ph.D. in ecology from Duke University. She is currently a visiting associate research professor at the University of Maryland, College Park with research interests in wetland ecology and restoration, biodiversity, biogeochemistry, climate change, and ecosystem services, particularly natural climate solutions, natural and nature-based coastal resilience strategies&nbsp;and the relationship between nature and human health. She has authored over 45 publications, and her research has been featured in several news stories (as well as a children\u2019s TV show). A former Smithsonian Fellow and AAAS Science and Technology Fellow and the recipient of numerous grants and awards, Dr. Sutton-Grier will talk about pursuing a career in science policy and explore her research on climate mitigation and coastal resilience. Honors College DeLoach Work Scholarship<\/strong><br>The Oregon State University Honors College is now accepting applications for the DeLoach Work Scholarship program for spring and summer term projects. The DeLoach program funds student-faculty projects that relate to the&nbsp;<strong>instructional, outreach&nbsp;and\/or diversity goals<\/strong>of the university. Students receive funding over the course of the designated term(s) to work on tasks related to faculty research, course development, or outreach and engagement projects. Proposed projects should provide students with a significant learning experience, while advancing faculty work for Oregon State. Faculty do not have to be teaching for the Honors College to submit a proposal. The deadline to apply is&nbsp;<strong>Sunday, February 28.<\/strong><br><br>Applications&nbsp;<strong>must&nbsp;<\/strong>be submitted by a tenured\/tenure-track or senior instructor rank faculty from any college or by a faculty member who is currently serving as an Honors College thesis mentor. All Honors College students are eligible to participate. Maximum awards are $1,000, with an award period of spring and summer terms, 2021. Proposed projects can be for either term or both, with funding split between terms (e.g., $500 per term); awards are paid as scholarships, and students must be enrolled in at least 3 credits to receive scholarship payments in a particular term. In past cycles, review has been highly competitive, with fewer than 50% of applications receiving funding.<br><br>We recognize that spring and summer term plans and circumstances may still be uncertain. We will be flexible in our review and, when necessary, in accepting changes to proposed projects.&nbsp;To apply, faculty supervisors must submit a proposal including the following to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:honors.college@oregonstate.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">honors.college@oregonstate.edu<\/a>&nbsp;by&nbsp;<strong>Sunday, February 28, 2021:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A one-page statement from the&nbsp;<strong>faculty supervisor<\/strong>&nbsp;describing the proposed project. Letters&nbsp;<strong>must<\/strong>&nbsp;also indicate how the project will support&nbsp;<strong>both&nbsp;<\/strong>the student\u2019s training and the faculty member\u2019s research&nbsp;<strong>and<\/strong>&nbsp;its relevance to the university\u2019s instructional, outreach, and\/or diversity goals; only projects that meet these requirements are eligible for DeLoach funding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A one-page statement from the&nbsp;<strong>student(s)<\/strong>&nbsp;describing the importance of the proposed project in their education and training and any relevant previous experiences or preparation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Endorsement from the faculty supervisor\u2019s unit head, indicated by either signature on the faulty letter or separate email to the Honors College.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional details are available <a href=\"http:\/\/honors.oregonstate.edu\/deloach-work-scholarship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>. Established in 1977 in memory of Richard Chambers, a pioneer in Oregon environmental protection who developed some of the earliest anti-litter legislation, this fund is intended to foster projects or research in applied environmental enhancement and\/or conservation involving the preservation or betterment of Oregon\u2019s wilderness, natural resources, or quality of life.&nbsp;The DeLoach Work Scholarship was created through the generosity of Dr. and Mrs. Daniel Barton DeLoach. Dr. DeLoach was an Oregon State faculty member from 1935 to 1949.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Schoenstein Sustaining Excellence Scholarship &#8211; DEADLINE EXTENDED<\/strong><br>The OSU Alumni Association and Community Engagement &amp; Leadership are excited to accept applications for the&nbsp;<strong>Schoenstein Sustaining Excellence Scholarship.&nbsp;<\/strong>This fund was dedicated in order to provide scholarships for OSU students who are in their <strong>sophomore, junior or senior year<\/strong>, and who are actively involved in activities beyond coursework; demonstrating that they are committed to learning and contributing outside the classroom to the OSU and\/or local community. This scholarship currently accepts applications through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/scholarships.oregonstate.edu\/scholardollars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OSU\u2019s Scholar Dollars<\/a>&nbsp;system. Students from all OSU campuses are eligible to apply. <strong>The application deadline is now Monday, March 8<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This scholarship will award six students with a one-time scholarship in the amount of $1,000.&nbsp;<\/strong>Award recipients will also have the&nbsp;<em>option<\/em>&nbsp;of being featured in the <a href=\"https:\/\/cel.oregonstate.edu\/students\/cyos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Create Your Own Story<\/a>&nbsp;story-sharing series coordinated by CEL if they so choose. Award recipients will receive the full $1,000 financial award regardless of whether they decide to be recognized and featured through the CYOS story sharing series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2021-2022 Honors College Continuing Student Scholarships Application<\/strong><br>All continuing Honors College students who want to be considered for HC tuition scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year&nbsp;<strong>must<\/strong>&nbsp;complete an application to the Oregon State University Honors College Differential Tuition Scholarship in&nbsp;OSU ScholarDollars <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarships.oregonstate.edu\/scholardollars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>. This application opened on January 1, 2021, so it may not have been accessible if you were previously in the system. We encourage students who are experiencing difficulty paying the costs associated with Honors College enrollment to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/honors.oregonstate.edu\/webform\/hc-differential-tuition-grants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">apply<\/a> for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant. Determinations will be made on a rolling basis and will consider both need and the likelihood of earning the Honors Baccalaureate.<strong>&nbsp;<br><br><strong>Inability to pay Honors College differential tuition or other costs this term should not be the primary barrier to any student&#8217;s successful graduation from the college or continuation as an honors student.<\/strong><\/strong>&nbsp;Approved grants may be for the full HC differential tuition (currently $500) or a portion of it and are for one-term only. An environmental historian, she specializes in the lands and seas of the Russian and North American Arctic. Norton), was named a Nature Top Ten Book of 2019 and Best Book of 2019 by NPR, Barnes and Noble, Kirkus Reviews&nbsp;and Library Journal among others.
