In order to raise money for this cause, we will be selling&nbsp;<strong>Krispy Kreme Donuts&nbsp;from&nbsp;February 1-12 <\/strong>&#8211; so get them quick!&nbsp;You will be able to pick up your donuts on Saturday,&nbsp;<strong>February 13 between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. outside of the LInC<\/strong>. With valentine&#8217;s day around the corner, what better gift to give than a box of donuts!? Even if it&#8217;s a gift to yourself! Honors College Dean and Friends Conversation on a Career in Surgery with Dr. Amber Leis<\/strong><br>All Honors College students are invited to a Dean and Friends conversation with Dr. Amber Leis, a 2003 graduate of the Honors College with her H.B.S. in microbiology. Dr. Leis is currently an associate professor at UC Irvine and the medical residency program director, as well as a plastic and hand surgeon. She was born in Sisters, Oregon to two artists, and as an undergraduate at Oregon State, she spent time in Zimbabwe and took a number of art classes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After graduation, she received her M.D. at the Johns Hopkins University before completing her plastic surgery residency in Southern California. During that time, she developed a particular passion for hand and nerve surgery, and she completed a fellowship at USC in orthopaedic hand surgery. Schoenstein Sustaining Excellence Scholarship<\/strong><br>The OSU Alumni Association and Community Engagement &amp; Leadership are excited to accept applications for the&nbsp;<strong>Schoenstein Sustaining Excellence Scholarship.&nbsp;<\/strong>This fund was dedicated in order to provide scholarships for OSU students who are in their <strong>sophomore, junior or senior year<\/strong>, and who are actively involved in activities beyond coursework, demonstrating that they are committed to learning and contributing outside the classroom to the OSU and\/or local community. This scholarship currently accepts applications through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/scholarships.oregonstate.edu\/scholardollars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OSU\u2019s Scholar Dollars<\/a>&nbsp;system. Students from all OSU campuses are eligible to apply. <strong>The application deadline is Monday, February 15<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This scholarship will award six students with a one-time scholarship in the amount of $1,000.&nbsp;<\/strong>Award recipients will also have the&nbsp;<em>option<\/em>&nbsp;of being featured in the<a href=\"https:\/\/cel.oregonstate.edu\/students\/cyos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;Create Your Own Story<\/a>&nbsp;story-sharing series coordinated by CEL if they so choose. Award recipients will receive the full $1,000.00 financial award regardless of whether they decide to be recognized and featured through the CYOS story sharing series. An award recipient\u2019s decision to participate in the CYOS story sharing series has no bearing on their reception of the scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2021-2022 Honors College Continuing Student Scholarships Application<\/strong><br>All continuing Honors College students who want to be considered for HC tuition scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year&nbsp;<strong>must<\/strong>&nbsp;complete an application to the Oregon State University Honors College Differential Tuition Scholarship in&nbsp;OSU ScholarDollars <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarships.oregonstate.edu\/scholardollars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>. This application opened on January 1, 2021, so it may not have been accessible if you were previously in the system. The deadline to apply is&nbsp;<strong>April 5, 2021&nbsp;<\/strong>at&nbsp;<strong>11:59 p.m.<\/strong>&nbsp;Please contact&nbsp;Kevin Stoller at <a href=\"mailto:stollerk@oregonstate.edu\">stollerk@oregonstate.edu<\/a>&nbsp;if you have any questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant<\/strong><br>The Honors College recognizes that this may be a particularly challenging time for Honors College students and their families. We encourage students who are experiencing difficulty paying the costs associated with Honors College enrollment to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/honors.oregonstate.edu\/webform\/hc-differential-tuition-grants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">apply<\/a> for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant. Determinations will be made on a rolling basis and will consider both need and the likelihood of earning the Honors Baccalaureate.<strong>&nbsp;<br><br><strong>Inability to pay Honors College differential tuition or other costs this term should not be the primary barrier to any student&#8217;s successful graduation from the college or continuation as an honors student.<\/strong><\/strong>&nbsp;Approved grants may be for the full HC differential tuition (currently $500) or a portion of it and are for one-term only. Marine Studies Initiative Summer 2021 Internships<\/strong><br>The Marine Studies Initiative office is pleased to offer Summer 2021 internships focused on interdisciplinary topics of the ocean and coasts.&nbsp;Internship projects are still being finalized but options may center around citizen science in the Cascade Head Biosphere Reserve, coastal tourism, the seafood industry, public engagement via video and social media creation, ocean acidification awareness, marine reserve interpretation and the seafood business and industry. Internship locations are also being finalized and may include Newport, Cascade Head near Lincoln City, Portland and Port Orford, Oregon.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Internships range from a 30- to 40-hours per week commitment. All interns are expected to write a project proposal, create a poster and present their project at both the MSI internship symposium and a public meeting or conference after the internship, all under the guidance of a mentor. Interns will also be required to participate in group check-ins, field trips, seminars, professional development and other group activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Internships will be in-person experiences with some remote work, and will last up to 10 weeks in length, starting around June 14, 2021. Start and end dates may vary depending on the internship. Group housing will be provided. Interns will receive compensation as an OSU hourly student worker. Total salary will not exceed $6,240 for a full-time, 10-week period internship commitment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All internships are open to currently enrolled OSU students and Oregon Community College students (OSU dual enrollment program or degree partnership program preferred). Students cannot be enrolled in more than 5 credits of summer classes. Any applying seniors must be enrolled as an OSU student in Summer 2021 to be eligible. JG researches and develops stand-alone science and technology companies. Dr. Thompson earned her Ph.D. in U.S. History from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and her master\u2019s degree in African American Studies from Columbia University in New York, where she was the recipient of the Zora Neale Hurston Award for Excellence in Writing by the Institute for Research in African American Studies for her M.A. thesis. She is a member of the editorial board of the peer-reviewed journal, the Oregon Historical Quarterly, where she co-edited and authored articles in the journal\u2019s regionally acclaimed special issue on White supremacy in Oregon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, Dr. Thompson is a visiting scholar in the Black Studies department at Portland State University where she is working on her book &#8220;The Making of American Whiteness,&#8221; which examines the origins of Whiteness in America. Dr. Thompson has taught a wide range of courses on race and the Black experience at Portland Community College and Portland State University, including American slavery, Black feminism and race and racism. Her research interests include the history of slavery and the slave trade in the New World and Pre-colonial West Africa, early African American history, race and ethnicity in early America and the Great Migration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Provost&#8217;s Literary Prize &#8211; $500 and On-Campus Publication<\/strong><br>This prize is open to currently enrolled undergraduate students at OSU!
