{"id":5989,"date":"2021-01-20T11:27:02","date_gmt":"2021-01-20T19:27:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/honorslink\/?p=5989"},"modified":"2023-05-23T13:31:19","modified_gmt":"2023-05-23T20:31:19","slug":"sukhjot-sal-hc-student-spotlight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/honorslink\/2021\/01\/20\/sukhjot-sal-hc-student-spotlight\/","title":{"rendered":"Sukhjot Sal &#8211; HC Student Spotlight"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Second-year honors English student Sukhjot Sal has only experienced Oregon State University in-person for two terms due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but despite the obstacles of remote learning, she has made the most of her time at college so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor that time, it was just amazing \u2014 it was everything I thought that college would be. It was really open and welcoming and there were so many opportunities,\u201d Sukhjot says of her short in-person experience at OSU.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sukhjot, who is originally from Beaverton, Oregon, came to OSU in large part for the Honors College experience. Featured in story in Winter Terra, 2016.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Sukhjot hopes to be a professional writer after graduation, and she\u2019s already begun to pursue this goal by working as a media assistant for the Honors College. In the role, she compiles the weekly Monday Message, family newsletters and more. She\u2019s also a news contributor for&nbsp;<em>The Daily Barometer<\/em>, Oregon State\u2019s campus newspaper.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though she has not yet had the chance to take colloquia, Sukhjot has been able to enjoy honors versions of classes: her favorites have been honors Interdisciplinary Yoga and honors Survey of African American Studies II. Because both of these classes were relatively small, Sukhjot found it easier to learn and build connections with peers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an introvert with a busy schedule, Sukhjot has found comfort in the Honors College during her time at OSU.
