The Honors College recognizes that this may be a particularly challenging time for Honors College students and their families. We encourage students who are experiencing difficulty paying the costs associated with Honors College enrollment to apply<\/a> for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant. Determinations will be made on a rolling basis and will consider both need and the likelihood of earning the Honors Baccalaureate.
Inability to pay Honors College differential tuition or other costs this term should not be the primary barrier to any student’s successful graduation from the college or continuation as an honors student.<\/strong><\/strong> Approved grants may be for the full HC differential tuition (currently $500) or a portion of it and are for one-term only. Grants will not be renewed for additional terms, but students can reapply. Typically, students can only receive two Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant during their time in the Honors College. The START Leader application is now open for admissions, recruiting students for summer 2021. START Leaders serve as an expert orientation resource for incoming students and their families, as well as campus partners and officials. They act as a role model and mentor for new students and facilitate small group sessions of new students. START Leaders also share their own OSU story to build student connection to the university, communicate with students about their transition to OSU and host social events for new students.

The Academic Success Center is currently hiring student coaches and strategists. The ASC is a great place for students to work. They will receive training and professional development applicable to a range of careers and the ASC is supportive of each student’s schedule. For these positions, training takes place during spring term, and the expectation is that students continue in the role next year as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Academic Learning Assistants are live-in, part-time (15-hour) student employees of Residential Education within the department of University Housing and Dining Services. They are responsible for providing academic support and faculty engagement opportunities in their assigned residential community. ALAs play an integral role in OSU\u2019s First Year Experience program, supporting first year students in their adjustment to the academic culture and rigor of Oregon State University. The University of Hawai\u02bbi at M\u0101noa is offering an exciting Honors study abroad program this summer at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo in Mendoza, Argentina. The program is open to all current university-level students – there is no need to apply to UHM to participate – and offers the opportunity to earn up to 9 credits; <\/strong>6 in Spanish language credits, from beginner to advanced levels, and 3 in Honors credits through the optional course HON 333 Experiential and Scholarly Engagement<\/a>.
This program runs from May 19 to June 30<\/strong> and its cost begins at $5,000. The program includes a room with an Argentinian host family, an overnight trip to the Uspallata Valley and the tallest mountain in the Americas, Aconcagua, trips to wineries and museums, and a \u201cGauchos\/Empanadas\u201d day in the country. The program also shares pre-departure and orientation programs to help students prepare, as well as detailed information on COVID-19 procedures and response plans.
