In addition to reading texts written by historians, students will also read a number of articles published by contemporary media outlets, and they will also read some documents (for example, the reports surrounding the renaming of buildings at OSU) pertaining to OSU. We will also have some guest speakers who will address topics such as racism in Corvallis, strategies for being anti-racist, and ways that OSU is making efforts to deal with the history of racism. Finally, each student will do a presentation on a relevant topic of their choice. Graded: P\/N. Satisfies: HC Colloquia.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>HC 407: Imaging the Universe<\/strong><br>Summer Session 4 (2nd 4-Week) (07-20-2020 to 08-14-2020)<br>MWF 3-3:50pm<br>Instructor: Tom Carrico<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The universe is far more than what our eyes can see. With the help of remote access software, students will be able to view and&nbsp;image the night sky. Students will learn various methods of image processing that will help tease out all available information. From there, the course will look at many of the resources available that will reveal more of the spectrum of the universe, including radio telescopes, orbiting observatories, and other novel techniques. There will be opportunities to image through solar telescopes, experience a star party (remotely) with a wide range of telescopes, and spend many evenings photographing the universe using cameras they can connect to and control from their&nbsp;home.&nbsp;Graded: P\/N Satisfies: HC Colloquia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Second&nbsp;section of <em>HC 407 Diagnosis, Stat: An Introduction to Clinical Diagnostics<\/em> Now Open!<\/strong><br>Since HC 407 Diagnosis, Stat: An Introduction to Clinical Diagnostics in Fall term filled so quickly, a second section has been opened so that more students can register for it! Both positions are responsible for holding tutoring hours and assisting students with questions related to a variety of courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Math tutor applicants should be able to provide help with the following courses: MTH 111-256 and MTH 264\/265.&nbsp;<strong>Applicants must have completed courses through MTH 264\/265 (or 306) MTH2 with a grade of B or higher, be able to hold 90 minutes of tutoring each week, be open to questions, and be dependable.<\/strong>&nbsp;This is a paid position through the HC. This resource is also available to former staff or students who recently graduated or are taking a break. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are all in this together and the HSRC is here for those who need us. Each bag has a theme and will feature more and more fresh and local produce as the growing season comes on. Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grants<br><\/strong>The Honors College recognizes that this may be a particularly challenging time for Honors College students and their families. We encourage students who are experiencing difficulty paying the costs associated with Honors College enrollment to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/honors.oregonstate.edu\/webform\/hc-differential-tuition-grants\" target=\"_blank\">apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant<\/a>. It provides a clear overview of emails sent to students regarding the OSU response to COVID-19 in the past few months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Human Services Resource Center (HSRC): COVID-19 Resources!<\/strong> <br>During this challenging and uncertain time, it is more important than ever for the HSRC to find new ways to support OSU students and their families. We have quickly changed many of our processes and programs so that we can continue meeting students&#8217; basic needs &#8211; this includes access to food, shelter, and other course related materials.&nbsp;We want you to know what our programs look like as we adapt to this new reality.<br>&#8211;<strong>Remote Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program&nbsp;(SNAP)<\/strong><br>One of the most impactful programs that helps fight food insecurity&nbsp;and serve as&nbsp;an&nbsp;effective retention strategy&nbsp;is SNAP.
