Beginning my Journey

Hello again, everyone!

We’re around the halfway point of our first capstone term and, overall, I’ve had quite a bit of success. Throughout this term, my team has been working on setting up our development stack, planning out our project, and specifying the requirements and functionalities our project management system will have.

Overall, I’ve had quite some cool experiences with the project that I’d like to share in my blog post and I think discussing some problems we’ve had and how my team has been able to resolve them will be very useful.

It’s been a very fun experience getting to know and work with my teammates throughout this project so far. We’ve had solid communication so far and we’ve been able to coordinate assignments and deadlines very well over the past six weeks.

One challenge that my team has faced so far is finding times to meet that work for everyone. Given we have people in different time zones that each have their own jobs and other responsibilities, finding time to meet each week can become tedious and difficult. Luckily, my team has been very flexible and communicative, so if there is ever a situation where someone is unavailable, we try to move our meetings to work around everyone’s schedule.

Another challenge my group has faced at points throughout this term is deciding on project specifications and features we want to incoorperate. Because we’ve been working on a project that’s mostly designed by us as a group, we’ve got to agree on decisions and features to be made in our application.

The way we’ve been able to work through these issues is by having calm and reasonable conversations, with everyone getting to announce their opinions and collectively working together to find a compromise or determine the best solution for that particular problem. I think this method has been the most successful for us and has allowed us to make a lot of decisions throughout the past six weeks that might’ve been much more difficult using another method.

While we have encountered these issues while working together, I would say most of the communication and work with my teammates has been spectacular. We’ve been able to problem solve and brainstorm ideas very well together, and I look forward to seeing how each of us will evolve as a team as well as individually.
