At the same meeting Michael Freitag received the Beadle and Tatum Award, which is handed out every other year “in recognition of outstanding and original research using Neurospora as a model organism”.The prize comes with reproductions of lantern slides prepared by George Beadle for the first talk on isolating mutants defective in the expression of genes required for metabolism in 1941, the beginning of “Biochemical Genetics”.
