Over the course of this class, I think the most important thing I have learned is about testing. I used to be really intimidated by different tests that employers would make potential applicants take for many reasons. First, I have never been a great test taker so I would get really anxious and nervous going into these tests. Secondly, I felt like the tests they were making me take did not align with the company whatsoever. Lastly, I think tests are a bad way of getting to know someone and do not see the point in making applicants take them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After this course, I learned that tests in the hiring process can be really beneficial. I now understand why companies use them, to create a standardized method in the hiring process to avoid adverse impact. It was never about me necessarily, it was always a way for interviewees to know more about me without having a bias. A few weeks ago I took a test for a company and did not feel as intimidated nor felt like I needed to answer questions to please my interviewer. I realized they wanted to get to know me BETTER through this personality test because it helps them know how to talk to me and how I handle situations. After this personality test, and going over the results with my interviewer I felt like the personality test they had me take was very accurate, and apparently I aligned very well with other people in the company. This was really exciting for me because this is the first time I have had to do this during the hiring process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Going forward, I am going to keep this in mind. The tests are to protect them and myself from facing anything discriminatory, which I appreciate now!
