Another week down with many more ahead. So far, it has felt like this course just started while also feeling like I’ve been doing it for months. I have done quite a bit of learning and collaborating with my team but I am still staring down a long road ahead. We are about four weeks in, but it doesn’t feel like we are near the halfway point at all.
Working with the team has been great so far and I’m learning a ton. We are really diving into React Native, Tailwinds, and AWS. As with learning any new programming language, it has its ups and downs. I really enjoy learning new technologies but I loath the long, painful process. Can I just get Neuralink and download knowledge already? It seems like I will spend most of the course watching tutorials and reading walk throughs. At least at the end we will have an awesome project to showcase and I will walk away with a few new talents. Thankfully, I have experience with React so the transition to React Native isn’t as difficult. But there is plenty of learning yet to be done.
Although the independent learning isn’t as structured and has no foreseeable limits, this class feels the most like the ‘real world’ out of all the OSU classes I’ve taken. Having regular stand up meetings and discussing deliverables really feels like we are a team of developers working on our company’s new app. It has been great working with different people and learning from them. We all have our different styles and skill levels. I hope to take many of my learnings from this class into my job (and future ones) to benefit my work and work flow. While I feel like there isn’t enough time to complete what I want to complete, I’m very excited to see what we develop in the coming weeks. Well readers, I must get back to that dreaded learning and build more screens for our app!
Until next time,
Max Grier
