It Begins…

Leading up to this class, I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting myself into. I didn’t know if there would be groups or if it would be an individual project. I wasn’t sure if we could pick our own projects or be given a list. All of this felt quite daunting, intimidating, and nerve wracking.

After finally becoming a part of a group and deciding what our project was, some of these concerns started to subside. Finally, I have a less murky path to traverse. I started to feel like I could see where I was headed and how to get there. To be honest, I have never been the largest fan of group projects, but I am excited to be working on a team for this project. After starting a career in UI/UX just a few month ago, I have seen how important and advantageous it is to have a team to work with. At first you may think that you’re better off doing everything by yourself, but once you spend six hours trying to fix a bug and a team member spots the problem in six seconds, you quickly realize the power of multiple eyes on a project.

I’m very excited to tern our choice of a mobile food delivery app into reality. I’ve spent most of my days working on desktop applications and have steered clear of mobile apps. The lack of understanding of mobile development and challenges terrified me. That fear has turned to excitement when I realized we will be developing the app in React Native. I have been using React for the better half of a year and now I’ll be able to take that experience and utilize it for mobile app development. It will be a challenging, yet exciting, experience.

Overall, my attitude towards capstone has changed drastically – and I’m sure it will continue to change. I went from fearful to excited. This class will certainly be a challenge, but I’m excited to grow my skills and broaden my horizons. Who knows, maybe this project will lead me down the path of mobile app development. Only time will tell.

Until next time,

Max Grier
