My manager at my most recent job left her position and took a different job at another company. This was an interesting instance because she had been given offers from others jobs and she had never taken any interest in the positions. After talking to her, I found out that the biggest pull for taking the new job was not the work itself but the compensation and the benefits. The actual work is not a field where she necessarily wants to work in and she doesn&#8217;t have the sense of community that she had at her previous workplace. The new position had a significant boost in her hourly pay as well as health benefits which she did not previously have. I believe that the reason the wage had that big of a pull in this situation is because of the way that the pay could improve her personal life. She is currently living with her parents and she really wants to move out. Even though the new job sacrifices her happiness at work, it puts her in a position to create a better life for herself outside of her career.
