Week 1 – Blog Assingment

After reading brief descriptions on some of the top ranked corporations in the United States, I have come to the conclusion that there are a few veins of human resource management that run consistently in each of these successful organizations. The first responsibility that Human Resources bears is the title of the Change Agent. As described in our lecture, “the change agent role is about helping to define the strategy relative to human capital and its contribution to the firm results.” (Meyers, 2023) Organizations that prioritize modernity as a determining factor of success tend to exhibit higher patient satisfaction. For example, Intuit Inc. a tech company responsible for entities like TurboTax, QuickBooks, and Credit Karma serves hundreds of millions of customers. In their words, “we never stop working to find new innovative ways to make this possible.” (Work, 2023) openness to change and innovative minds are assets that extend beyond qualitative measure. 

For me, as a manager, my responsibilities would likely look slightly different because I intend to pursue a career in the medical field. When taking on responsibilities, existing rules like privacy agreements, codes of conduct, and strict qualifications limit the ways in which health care institutions can diversify themselves. Obviously, safety and accessibility for patients of the clinic which I would manage will always take priority. Beyond that, I wish to give my employees opportunity and resources to explore their interests and ideas for improvement within the workplace. The LEAN style of management encourages employee engagement and creativity,  factors I feel are crucial to a cutting edge institution and motivated team (What, 2022). As a manager, I’d like to include LEAN in the foundation of my management style.

This could prove to be difficult for the healthcare industry simply due to provider burnout and lack of funding. There are horrendous issues that burden the American healthcare system at this time. Dealing with these issues as a business partner and administrative expert while simultaneously acting as a change agent and employee advocate will likely be the most challenging part of working as a human resources manager in healthcare.
