{"id":133,"date":"2009-09-10T12:56:56","date_gmt":"2009-09-10T19:56:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.glencora.org\/?p=133"},"modified":"2009-09-10T12:56:56","modified_gmt":"2009-09-10T19:56:56","slug":"newly-minted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/glencora\/2009\/09\/10\/newly-minted\/","title":{"rendered":"Newly minted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just started &#8211; a week before my official start date &#8211; as an assistant professor at <a href=\"http:\/\/oregonstate.edu\">Oregon State University<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/eecs.oregonstate.edu\">School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science<\/a>. \u00a0I feel very luck to be here, to have landed a job in a year when many of few job openings were rescinded because of the crumbling economy, let alone in an incredibly friendly department in <a href=\"http:\/\/eecs.oregonstate.edu\/advantage\/slideshow-corvallis\/\">a beautiful town near mountains and oceans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I am alone as a TCS person in the department, and I&#8217;m sure I will feel some isolation as a result. \u00a0I am really hoping that I will be able to work on some interesting problems with non-TCS people. \u00a0My background, though, is in very traditional algorithmic work, so I am sure there will be growing pains.
