So, this week was a bit slower than the others before. Having to setup a new VM went faster than the first time, but this week was the midpoint of the capstone project. That meant that this weak instead of starting with testing the new VM and making sure it is truly isolated and working with the malware, it started with writing a report and making a video. The video was a lot harder than expected, packing in so much info, especially on malware analysis, into four minutes is difficult. I only really had to explain a little bit on just one of the tools and what it does in the analysis process and even that went a few seconds over four minutes. But now that the midpoint stuff is out of the way I can finally get back to setting up the isolated network for my new Windows 10 VM and making sure the malware can run on it. Once all that has been established, I’ll move onto the final part of the project which is documenting my analysis on the Ficker stealer in the group report. I fell that this part will be harder than the setup just due to the meticulous nature of malware analysis but, also the most fun because I’ll get to see the processes and steps that Ficker stealer does to steal and sends user information. Mostly I’m hoping to be able to bring up the GUI the malware uses since it has a GUI component and what it does.
