Frequently Asked Questions

1. How is the amount of the fellowship package determined?

Once your FAFSA is submitted, information will be automatically forward to Oregon State’s Financial Aid Office to determine your financial need, which establishes your GAANN stipend amount. The stipend will be the lesser of either your demonstrated financial need or the maximum amount of $37,000. Fellowship packages include an additional $19,033 allocated to the Graduate School for your tuition, fees, and health insurance coverage, bringing the total fellowship value to approximately $56,033 annually.

FAFSA uses prior year income in its financial need determination. If your circumstances have significantly changed (such as leaving full-time employment for graduate studies), you may be eligible for a “Professional Judgment” or “Special Circumstances Appeal” through Oregon State’s Financial Aid Office.
