In 2020, the club made contact with a series of elementary schools in the Albany School district, to determine interest in receiving pellet kits. For $349, the club was able to purchase the first sets of 60 jumbo owl pellet dissection kits, which were combined with gloves, paper dissection plates, and a sticker to mark the event. The kits were then used in a virtual lab dissection event held recently in January 2021. The virtual lab included an interactive walkthrough of the use of the kits, where club members shared findings from their pellet dissections and answered questions about owls, owl pellets, and science in general. A number of Albany school district teachers participated in the event, which was recorded so it could be used as a virtual guide with their classes.

FW Club President Marie and Advisor Shalynn prepare owl pellet kits to send to the schools.

19th Annual Native American Longhouse Salmon Bake – May 19th, 2017

The NAL Eena Haws’ Annual Salmon Bake is their largest event of the year and it’s a great opportunity to learn more about Native American and Pacific Island culture here on campus while enjoying traditional Indigenous cuisine!

The Fisheries and Wildlife Club was invited to host an educational booth at the event where we shared the natural history of salmonids in the Pacific Northwest and some of the challenges they face today.
