What kind of environment do YOU want to work in?

In today’s world, I would say one of the most important parts of your life is enjoying where you work. As a 20-year-old, I will be working for the next 40+ years of my life, so I might as well choose somewhere I like right? Maintaining your employee’s happiness is a key factor in retaining them, as well as maximizing productivity. In this post, I’m going to talk about a few companies that have mastered this. Starting off with the highest rated company to work for in 2025 is the Hilton. This doesn’t really come as a surprise as you can feel happy environment as soon as you enter the building. Employees here have stated that the sense of community in striving to make the guests experience the best, is what has brought them all together and that’s what they love about it. I feel that having a sense of community in the workplace definitely makes your workday more enjoyable and creates an environment your employees look forward showing up to, and this is something that Hilton has mastered (Fortune, 2025). Next on the list is Synchrony. This company seems to have mastered the work-life balance ration, employees have stated. From flex Fridays and floating holidays, the people who work here really like the adaptability of the schedule (Fortune, 2025). Last but certainly not least is Oregon States biggest contribution to the world in recent times, NVIDIA. Founded by an Oregon State alumni, NVIDIA has risen to be one of the biggest companies in the country in recent times. With thousands of employees, people have described the feeling of working here as “a startup with massive funding”. With this, the transparency that passes through the chain of command is a huge factor people seem to appreciate (Fortune, 2025). Looking back on these 3 successful companies, I now have a good idea on what type of HR manager traits I would like to bring into a workplace. Having a sense of a tight-knit community along with transparent reasoning, these attributes are what make a company successful. A more challenging thing to bring to the table is flexible schedules and floating holidays. I’m going into construction out of school, and with deadlines being the biggest aspect of the industry, handing out holidays to everyone would definitely impact the schedule. With all of this in mind though, I now know what to look for in an HR manager, as well as what I would try to bring to the table if I was to ever become one.
