When I started my job working at a restaurant in high school, I went into it as a very hardworking individual and throughout my first few weeks, I began to notice the benefits of working hard at this job. About a month or so in, my boss came up to me and told me that I was getting a raise because they had been noticing my hard work. The was something that I was not expecting in the least but it showed me that working hard at this job got you incentives like raises and promotions.

After getting my raise, I wanted to push myself even more to come to work every day and over preform. It was the height of summer and there were constantly tables to be cleaned but I had mastered the ability to buss these tables at a quick speed and take on additional tasks like sweeping the patio or helping take food out. After another month of me doing this, I was promoted to a cashier. This was something that was seen as a big deal because it was typically pretty hard to be promoted from a busser that quickly but because of my hard work and the incentives that I know were possible, I was able to work even harder to get what I wanted.

After a few more months working there, I went to college. Then over the breaks and on occasional weekends, I would go back home to work and pick up extra shifts. This was another practice that was pretty uncommon for this restaurant. Most of the employees take leave for school and are not back until the next extended break.

The next year in April, I was told they wanted to offer me a management position at the restaurant for the upcoming summer. This was something once again that was unusual since I had been working there for less than a year.

Being able to see the rewards to my hard work in action made me want to work even harder to see what the next reward was going to be. It made me want to impress my managers and it was self fulfilling to know I was able to hit all of these accomplishments through my hard work.
