\"\"Hello!\u00a0My name is Abbey Berhorst, and I grew up in Yamhill, Oregon. I just graduated with\u00a0a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>bachelor\u2019s degree in\u00a0agricultural\u00a0science from the Oregon State University partnership<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>program with Eastern Oregon University in La Grande. This fall I will be\u00a0continuing my education by pursuing a master\u2019s degree in\u00a0agricultural\u00a0education at\u00a0OSU. I\u2019m looking forward to student teaching this fall in St. Paul, Oregon.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This summer I am working for\u00a0OSU Extension office in\u00a0Umatilla County,\u00a0at the Hermiston Agricultural\u00a0Research and Extension Center. I\u2019ll be working with Ray Qin,\u00a0who\u2019s program focuses\u00a0on\u00a0field crop agronomy and soil, nutrient, and water management of high value irrigated\u00a0crops grown in north-central and northeastern Oregon. I will be assisting him with<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>various research trials throughout the summer by measuring field crops, recording crop<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>growth, and preparing crop samples for testing. As an\u00a0Extension intern,\u00a0I will also assist<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>with communications by helping write newsletters and sharing on the research station\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Instagram page that will be coming soon.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before starting my internship,\u00a0I had no idea how diverse OSU Extension\u00a0is\u00a0and how<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>far it reaches\u00a0across the state. I was actively involved in 4-H growing up,\u00a0so I knew of<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Extension, but I thought it only focused on 4-H. Through my internship I am\u00a0now\u00a0able to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>see that it extends far beyond 4-H and focuses on areas including agronomy,\u00a0<\/span>community health, and natural resource sustainability. I am so excited to continue\u00a0<\/span>learning about OSU Extension and I look forward to my further involvement as I begin\u00a0<\/span>teaching in the future.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
