What got you started with computers or software?
My husband was a freelance web developer for a while, so he introduced me to software development. However, I never thought it was something that I could succeed at! When I graduated from UCI with a degree in Biological Sciences, I worked in clinical and research labs. I ended up wanting more of a challenge, something creative but still within the STEM field. My husband then suggested computer science, I gave it a genuine shot and ended up really loving it! I quickly made the decision to join OSU post-bacc program and I am truly so grateful for this program to exist.
Current job or internship:
I am currently just focusing on finishing my last quarter and applying to internships/jobs. I will work on leetcode this quarter and apply. I was working as a TA last quarter but I want to make sure that I have enough time to work on an awesome capstone project and hopefully get an offer before I graduate!
Your future career
After graduation, I am going to look for general junior software engineer roles. I am comfortable with backend but I am open to frontend work! I have taken Cloud Application Development and Mobile Development so I would love to be able to use the skills I’ve gained from those classes!
I would eventually want to get into Cybersecurity, but I know that that field does not have a linear roadmap. I also plan on continuing with my academic career, I wish to pursue my Masters in Computer Science at Georgia Tech.
Favorite listed projects
My top three projects for this course was Betchya, Crowd-sourced Shopping App and Dating app for animal adoption. All these projects seem to have good causes behind them and real-life applications. Betchya could help tribal communities participate in online sports betting. Crowd-sourced shopping would greatly help users shop smarter especially during a time where inflation has impacted many families. The Dating app for animal adoption would be a fun project that can help get pets adopted! However, I do think that project should be renamed! I would love to work any of these projects, it would be amazing to work on something that is impactful and addresses real-life challenges.
Hobbies & interests
When I am not coding or studying, I am usually playing video games or hanging out with my dog! I have recently picked up knitting, and that has been a great way to unplug. I also love reading, so if you have any book recommendations please let me know!
