If someone were to ask me about the concept of ‘the cloud,’ I wouldn’t know how to answer. My imagination describes it as a collection of computers hovering in the sky. If you have experience in software development, you might know much more than I do. As a simple definition, the cloud ‘refers to a network of remote servers hosted on the internet that store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lo and behold, our capstone project involves the use of several cloud services!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While learning more about the cloud, I realized that the number of cloud services we use in our daily routines is mind-boggling. Google offers many of them, such as Google Drive and Google Maps, just to name a few. Our favorite shows are also hosted on cloud servers provided by Netflix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our capstone project centers around the idea of a crowd-sourced travel planner, so I spent the last few weeks learning about the services we required. We settled on using Google Cloud Platform, and I had absolutely zero idea about what that is. At first glance, the range of services that Google Cloud provides is astonishing and felt like I was drowning in technology. I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to wrap my head around what we need, such as a database of some sort and most likely Google Maps. Although our application is semi-functional, I’m more than delighted that we were able to incorporate those services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Navigating through the behemoth that is Google Cloud Platform is quite an accomplishment for me. I’m happy that my curiosity drives me to find what I need regardless of obstacles. Looking ahead, I’m excited to learn more about the cloud in the upcoming quarter when I take the course on cloud application development!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
