OSU may nominate up to four students per year who meet the following eligibility requirements and&nbsp;<strong>we may also nominate a fifth student if any of our nominees is a transfer student.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who Is Eligible<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgoldwaterscholarship.gov%2Feligibility%2F&amp;data=05%7C01%7CLuanne.Johnson%40oregonstate.edu%7C0fe6df6b48cd4913b06208db978f4b9d%7Cce6d05e13c5e4d6287a84c4a2713c113%7C0%7C0%7C638270413918886553%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=WOTsUZlCxE4J4GPzLTexE%2FsDUtpb6egHT%2BrAgaxYxxY%3D&amp;reserved=0\">eligible for nomination<\/a>, students must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be a matriculated sophomore or junior pursuing a degree during the 2023-24 academic year*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intend to pursue a research career in a natural science, mathematics or engineering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a college grade point average of at least a 3.0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>*<em>We cannot nominate students who are presently in their first year, no matter how many credit hours they have. The only students in their fourth year that we can consider are those who have at least one more full-time year following to complete their degrees.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To be competitive, nominees<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have strong research experience defined by:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clarity of purpose<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experiences clearly connected to goals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Level of independence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Significance of research to the candidate\u2019s field<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher, although consideration is possible for COVID and other disruptions. In 2022, GPAs for Goldwater scholars ranged nationally from 3.53 and up.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to Nominate a Qualified Student&nbsp;<\/strong>&#8211; To nominate a student, please send the following<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>information in an email to LeAnn Adam at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:leann.adam@oregonstate.edu\">leann.adam@oregonstate.edu<\/a>&nbsp;as soon as possible:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Name<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. ID Number<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Major<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. GPA<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. Planned graduation year<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After I receive your nomination(s), I will invite the student to a meeting in which I will explain the<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>application process, offer assistance, and enroll them in the Goldwater Canvas site that includes tips, insights, and essay samples. We will provide students personalized advising and support throughout the application cycle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Now \u2013 December 2023<\/strong>:&nbsp;Students prepare application materials, consult with references, seek feedback&nbsp;<br><strong>September 5, 2023<\/strong>&nbsp;online application opens; students complete pre-application, access full application<br><strong>December 20,<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>2023<\/strong>:&nbsp;OSU Campus deadline&nbsp;<br><strong>January 5, 2024<\/strong>: References due<br><strong>January 12, 2024:<\/strong>&nbsp;OSU selects nominees to compete nationally<br><strong>Week of January 15, 2024:<\/strong>&nbsp;All candidates will be notified of their nomination status.&nbsp;Nominees will receive feedback and have the opportunity to make final revisions before the national deadline.
