The Office of Institutional Diversity is seeking participants for the summer 2023 Dialogue Facilitation Lab<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The organizing topic for the summer 2023 cohort is:\u00a0Confronting Racism in Higher Education\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0\u202f\u00a0

The Dialogue Facilitation Lab is a professional learning experience for faculty, staff, and graduate employees looking to grow as a dialogue facilitator and integrate dialogue practices in their professional responsibilities related to teaching, research, leadership, or service.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0

Program goals<\/strong>\u00a0We hope our lab will shape our university by:\u00a0Raising confidence and capacity of faculty, staff, and graduate employees to facilitate dialogue on topics that are intellectually and emotionally complex.\u00a0\u00a0Dynamically training facilitators to support strategic diversity efforts and respond to emerging community needs.\u00a0Increasing the occurrence of dialogue in teaching, research, leadership, and service contexts.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0

Participant outcomes<\/strong>\u00a0We intend for participants to develop essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes so they may effectively facilitate DEI related dialogue, including:\u00a0\u00a0Creating space for different perspectives on a contentious topic.\u00a0\u00a0Stimulating complex thinking on a contentious topic.\u00a0Fostering connection among polarized dialogue participants.\u00a0Demonstrating patience and understanding.\u00a0Modeling courage and vulnerability.\u00a0\u00a0Affirming diverse points of view.\u00a0Establishing confidence and credibility with dialogue participants.\u00a0\u00a0Developing illustrative and relevant examples.\u00a0Addressing participant questions effectively.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0

Program expectations<\/strong>\u00a0Lab participants are expected to:\u00a0\u00a0Attend weekly lab sessions via Zoom, with no more than one absence.\u00a0\u00a0Actively participate in each lab session.\u00a0\u00a0Co-design and co-facilitate a dialogue experience for at least one lab session.\u00a0\u00a0Complete pre-session tasks including video lectures, readings, and reflection activities.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0This\u00a0summer term, the lab will meet weekly for eleven sessions,\u00a0Thursdays, 2:00pm \u2013 4:00pm,\u00a0June 29th<\/sup>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0September 7th<\/sup>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u202f\u00a0
