{"id":5130,"date":"2018-10-15T11:44:02","date_gmt":"2018-10-15T18:44:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/erlenmeyer\/?p=5130"},"modified":"2018-10-15T11:47:25","modified_gmt":"2018-10-15T18:47:25","slug":"2019-fred-hutch-summer-undergraduate-research-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/erlenmeyer\/2018\/10\/15\/2019-fred-hutch-summer-undergraduate-research-program\/","title":{"rendered":"2019 Fred Hutch Summer Undergraduate Research Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fredhutch.org\/en\/about.html\">Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center<\/a> (Fred Hutch) hosts a summer internship that is designed to provide biomedical research experience and mentorship for undergraduate students of rising senior status.\u00a0 We would appreciate your help promoting the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fredhutch.org\/en\/education-training\/undergraduate-students.html\">Summer Undergraduate Research Program<\/a> (SURP) among students at Oregon State University.\u00a0 I have attached an informational brochure that offers an overview of the program and a brief snapshot of important dates below, including how to apply.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The SURP is an intensive, 9-week internship designed to provide research experience and mentorship for rising-senior undergraduate students who are interested in biomedical research.\u00a0 Under the guidance of a faculty mentor, students will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete an independent research project;<\/li>\n<li>Attend weekly research seminars;<\/li>\n<li>Participate in professional development workshops designed to facilitate the preparation of competitive applications for graduate\/medical school; and<\/li>\n<li>Present their findings at a competitive poster session.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The program will run from <strong>Monday, June 10<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>Friday, August 9<\/strong>, <strong>2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>An <strong>online application<\/strong> for the 2019 SURP will be available via the SURP website in <strong>mid-November 2018<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The application deadline is midnight Pacific Standard Time (PST) on <strong>Friday,<\/strong> <strong>January 11, 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Letters of recommendation for up to two references are due by midnight Pacific Standard Time (PST) on<strong>Friday,<\/strong> <strong>January 18, 2019<\/strong>.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Other Biomedical Research Internships<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I also wanted to share with you a resource that my colleagues and I developed, which is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fredhutch.org\/content\/dam\/public\/education\/surp\/internships.pdf\">catalog<\/a> of biomedical research internships offered nationwide for high school, undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, graduate, and first-year medical students.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/erlenmeyer\/files\/2018\/10\/2019_SURP_RecruitmentBrochure_final.pdf\">2019_SURP_RecruitmentBrochure_final<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch) hosts a summer internship that is designed to provide biomedical research experience and mentorship for undergraduate students of rising senior status.\u00a0 We would appreciate your help promoting the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) among students at Oregon State University.\u00a0 I have attached an informational brochure that offers&hellip;
