{"id":3140,"date":"2015-10-08T11:13:13","date_gmt":"2015-10-08T18:13:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/erlenmeyer\/?p=3140"},"modified":"2015-10-08T11:13:13","modified_gmt":"2015-10-08T18:13:13","slug":"undergraduate-of-the-quarter-spring-2015-jamy-lee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/erlenmeyer\/2015\/10\/08\/undergraduate-of-the-quarter-spring-2015-jamy-lee\/","title":{"rendered":"Undergraduate of the Quarter &#8211; Spring 2015 &#8211; Jamy Lee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/erlenmeyer\/files\/2015\/10\/Lee-Jamy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3141\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/erlenmeyer\/files\/2015\/10\/Lee-Jamy-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Lee, Jamy\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/1046\/files\/2015\/10\/Lee-Jamy-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/1046\/files\/2015\/10\/Lee-Jamy-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/1046\/files\/2015\/10\/Lee-Jamy-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 Jamy Lee was born and raised in Tigard, Oregon.\u00a0 She attended Tigard High School, home of the Tigard Tigers, and credits her Chemistry teacher, Mr. Massey with why she chose chemistry for her college major.\u00a0 \u201cHe just kept telling me all the cool things I could do and that I could definitely get a job in the field.\u201d<br \/>\nShe chose Oregon State University because of the low tuition rates and the proximity to her hometown.\u00a0 Her brother also attended OSU, so she said, \u201cat least I knew someone.\u201d\u00a0 She said when she started, she was really bored with General Chemistry because she\u2019d seen it all in high school, so she went to see her advisor, Dr. Neal Sleszynski.\u00a0 Not only did he talk her into taking CH 324, Quantitative Analysis, a class she maintains to this day as one of her favorite college experiences, but he also introduced her to undergraduate research.<br \/>\nJamy was awarded the URISC (Undergraduate Research, Innovation, Scholarship and Creativity) Start for the summer of her freshman year and took that opportunity to start undergraduate research with Dr. Vince Remcho.\u00a0 The summer of her sophomore year, she participated in the Center for Sustainable Materials Chemistry\u2019s Undergraduate Research Program at UC Davis.\u00a0 While there, she worked with Dr. Kacey analyzing aluminum and gallium clusters; Jamy said, \u201cit was really cool.\u201d\u00a0 The summer of her junior year, she was back in Dr. Remcho\u2019s lab working in conjunction with the Sure Science program and focusing on different research topics.<br \/>\nIn her spare time, Jamy is the Academic Success Officer for the science sorority, Sigma Delta Omega, the Vice President of the Chemistry Club and a member of the College of Science Student Advisory Council (COSSAC).
