Our department values diversity, rigor, and innovative approaches to environmental and occupational health (EOH) research and practice. We seek candidates from all disciplines that inform EOH, but are particularly interested in applicants with scholarship in the following areas of expertise: (1) disaster preparedness, resilience and policy; and (2) toxicology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All University of Washington faculty engage in\nresearch, teaching, mentorship and service. Applicants should provide a formal\nletter of interest indicating their research interests and teaching experience\nand pedagogy, curriculum vitae, at least four names and contact information for\nfour references (letters of recommendation may be asked for at a later time),\nsamples of research work and teaching experience (with course evaluations if\navailable), and a statement noting how their research, teaching, student\nmentorship, and service experience or interests have the potential to support\nDEOHS\u2019s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. DEOHS has research programs providing\nleadership in toxicology, exposure assessment, environmental epidemiology,\noccupational health and safety, microbiology, and environmental health\npractice-based participatory research. Educational programs at the undergraduate and graduate level\ntrain future leaders in environmental and occupational health sciences.&nbsp; As part of the top-ranked UW School of Public\nHealth, DEOHS educates tomorrow\u2019s environmental health and safety leaders and\nreaches today\u2019s workforce and other stake-holder communities with sustainable\nenvironmental and occupational health solutions through our public service,\ninnovative research and cross-disciplinary partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our program is ranked fifth in the world among academic\nenvironmental and occupational health sciences programs. The department is home\nto numerous training grants and research centers supported by the National\nInstitutes of Health and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and\nHealth; this includes an NIEHS Core Center (the Interdisciplinary Exposure,\nDisease, Genomics, and Environment Center, with a strong focus on functional\ngenomics and molecular approaches), a Superfund Research Program, and the\nNorthwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety. There is a rich history of\ncollaborative research in the department and across the University that\nsupports new faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the\ndisaster preparedness, resilience and policy position, it is anticipated that\nthe new early career faculty member will bring interest and appropriate\nexpertise in disaster-related health risk management, including policy\nexperience related to increasing resilience in affected communities. We\nespecially welcome candidates with a strong background or interest in community\nrelevant, translatable research. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the\ntoxicologist position, it is anticipated that the new early career faculty\nmember will bring interest and appropriate expertise in mechanistic toxicology\nwith potential applications for developing biomarkers for experimental and\nhuman population studies, and techniques for understanding molecular mechanisms\nof chemically-related illnesses.
