{"id":20,"date":"2020-01-31T21:28:42","date_gmt":"2020-01-31T21:28:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/endress\/?page_id=20"},"modified":"2025-11-01T16:40:42","modified_gmt":"2025-11-01T16:40:42","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/endress\/","title":{"rendered":"Applied Plant Ecology Lab"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\">Research lab of Dr. Bryan Endress<br><strong>Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center, Oregon State University<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who we are:<\/strong><br>We are a team of researchers interested in the management, restoration, conservation, and stewardship of biocultural resources and ecosystem services, often operating within a multiple-use context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What<\/strong> <strong>we do<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Conduct research addressing current and emerging agricultural and natural resource issues and challenges;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborate with diverse partners at the research-management interface to advance our understanding of ecological systems while informing management, production systems, stewardship, and restoration;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepare, teach, and train the next generation of researchers, practitioners, and leaders able to understand, engage, and solve agricultural and natural resource challenges across the globe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How we work:<\/strong><br><span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">We utilize multidisciplinary, collaborative and participatory approaches in our research. Partnerships, co-production, and collaboration are key components of our process.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Were we work:<\/strong><br><span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">The Applied Plant Ecology Lab is located at the Union Experiment Station in northeastern Oregon (part of the Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center) at Oregon State University, but our projects span the globe.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Current Research<\/strong><br>Research centers on the ecology and management of ecosystems, ecosystem services, and ecological interactions. Projects<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\"> spans topics, themes, issues and scales<\/span>, yet all are applied in nature. Most of our work investigates how plant populations and communities respond to disturbance events (e.g., fire, invasive species) and management activities (e.g., fuels treatments, grazing, restoration) and how these responses influence a range of ecosystem services, including biodiversity, food systems, plant community, wildlife habitat, the abundance of culturally important plant resources, and more. We often work within a multiple-use and multi-functional landscape context.
