My experience with people being motivated by compensation is surprisingly high. I have not had many jobs but almost every single job I have had a co worker that has not done their job to the best of their abilities because they are aware of being paid less then others. I can also assume this happens within collegiate sports. Each person is given a certain amount of scholarship. Normally this is private information but I could see how this could cause many problems resulting in not giving their greatest effort.
Company’s and sports teams probably deal with this in a similar way. Although many people keep their income/ compensation private most company’s are because they are public have to have pay transparency which is normally seen on their website. Things that I am sure most collegiate sports face is equity theory. Sometimes people do not consider equate their compensation to their worth and continue to work hard and get an increased scholarship. Other times we see the opposite people that are getting paid/ compensated a lot and their effort is not their.
These are just my experiences and general thoughts on this topic!
