One of my old roommates was a very smart woman. She worked really hard and school and also was a committed athlete. As my roommate got older and further along in her undergrad she made the decision to major in both finance and accounting. Because of this she set herself up so well for post graduation. Immediately after graduation my roommate had a job offer in her hands. She was almost 100% convinced she was going to accept the job offer because she was happy with the culture, location, pay, and benefits. To her surprise right before she accepted the offer she was given another offer. this job offer was on the other side of the country, she was unfamilar with the culture. She ended up choosing the second option because she was more happy with higher pay and benefits then with the location and good team culture.
This story is a prime example on why everyone has different values and percentage of whats a good compensation or not. I think for some in my roommates place would choose to have a better culture and location rather then being paid more. But in this case my roommate values being compensated more and from talking with her she seems to be very happy with her decision.
