Compensation Management

Week one

I have not worked a large amount of jobs and so speaking from that angle is fairly difficult. However, being on the women’s soccer team here at Oregon State I can speak about the compensation in the form of scholarship reflecting the motivation of myself and my teammates. Scholarships is something that is rarely spoken about amongst teammates. The reason for this is because the idea of extrinsic and intrinsic rewards. If one person is getting payed a lesser amount of money for the same amount of work and effort as the person that is getting paid much more, the person getting paid less may be demotivated. However, I have also witnessed the complete opposite. Because of a larger scholarship people tend to believe they are better then others and not try as hard knowing they will still probably play. I am curious if in the working world issues like this arise.

As we learned in this weeks lectures and readings “Compensation is a powerful tool to influence employees” Introduction to Compensation (aligns with MLO 1-5) But what I would argue is even more powerful as a manger is being able to balance and maintain a positive working culture regardless of ones compensation.
