GREAT PLACES TO WORK: BLOG 1

Madison Ellsworth

I have chosen four companies to analyze and then reflected on how well their Human Resources within the company impacts their success both internally and externally. The companies I will be discussing include The Cheesecake Factory, Marriott international, and T-Mobile.

The Cheesecake Factory

On average about 60% of people in America say that their company is a great place to work; however, this company has 84% of their employees saying they love working at this company. Additionally, 91% of this company feels welcomed as an employee. Being passionate about Human Resources I instantly wonder how can they get that 9% to feel welcomed also. But, I do believe 91% is a very positive reflection of a positive work culture. We learned in Lecture one that people matter. Making employees feel supported and valued is what makes a company thrive and help with retention.

Marriott International

Similar to the Cheesecake Factory the Marriott International is ranked 86% with employees thinking its a great place to work. A statistic that really stands out to me is that 89% of employees feel a sense of pride when they complete a task. This concept speaks volumes. Being able to create a purpose for 89% of your employees demonstrates the company’s ability to create a purpose driven vision. But doing this is not easy, as we learned in lecture video four Human Resources Analytics plays a huge role in this. Being able to look at the demographics of your employees, understanding them on a personal level, and finding out what drives them. After determining that information being able to create a purpose within the workplace can be very challenging but highly rewarding.

T-Mobile USA

Compared to the previous company’s I have briefly talked about T-Mobile had the lower of the positive ratings. A statistic that really stood out to me was only 84% appears honest and ethical. Learning about Human Resources I have learned the importance of creating a open, honest, and transparent workplace where employees feel like they are not being taken advantage of. Through our readings we have learned that the majority of why employees leave their company’s is because of their manager or superiors. Knowing this I would think managers would do everything in their power to make their employees feel in the loop.

Managing Reflection

Through the readings and lecture videos as well as doing some of my own research I have quickly realized the manager I aspire to be one day. Focusing on making my employees find their “why” will allow for a more driven team. Making sure I create a clear line of communication will allow them to trust me. Finally, what I would argue is the most important is I will respect them. Showing my employees respect will create a welcoming environment, that will allow for collaboration, team work, and ultimately a great work experience.
