America is built on staying innovative and relevant. A lot of students are taught about the men that came through our history to make inventions that made our country greater. Even though these men did help make things better for us, so did women. Sprinkled throughout our history are strong intelligent women who have made their mark on our world today.

Starting with Josephine Cochran in 1872. During this time women all throughout America were spending hours cleaning up after their family. From sweeping the floors to washing every dish by hand. Also remember, they did not use paper plates or napkins, so everything took a lot of time to clean up after. But, in 1872 Josephine decided to create an invention that is still being used today, the dishwasher. When the dishwasher was first invented it was a luxury item for near all of America. By this bright women inventing it, it took Americans into the twentieth century with ease. Continuing to make our lives even easier, Mary Anderson came to America’s rescue during the winter months. In 1903 Mary Anderson decided to create the windshield wiper to help the wealthy Americans out with their ability to drive at night. Piggy backing off Mary Anderson, came El Dorado Jones. In 1917 El Dorado Jones created the engine muffler which made cars run quieter and more efficiently. Lastly, in 1917 Ida Forbes created the showers we love so much today. And no I do not mean the literal shower. Ida Forbes created the electric hot water heater to help save time during daily activities for Americans.

During this time in our history, Americans were looking to simplify their lives and how they lived. Prior to the war a lot of their daily lives were lived with men at work making money and women truly running a household. Due to all the things needing to be done around the house, i.e. cleaning, preparing food, laundry, and child maintenance, they had little time to themselves. With the inventions from these lovely women above, they were able to now get their household chores done much quicker, leaving time for themselves.
