{"id":1428,"date":"2021-05-04T21:30:49","date_gmt":"2021-05-04T21:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/eecsnews\/?p=1428"},"modified":"2021-05-04T21:30:50","modified_gmt":"2021-05-04T21:30:50","slug":"graduate-student-selected-for-national-lab-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/eecsnews\/2021\/05\/04\/graduate-student-selected-for-national-lab-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Graduate student selected for national lab program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"366\" class=\"wp-image-1429\" style=\"margin: 0px 25px 25px 0px;float:left\" src=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/1921\/files\/2021\/05\/agostinelli.jpg\" alt=\"Victor Agostinelli\" srcset=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/1921\/files\/2021\/05\/agostinelli.jpg 300w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/1921\/files\/2021\/05\/agostinelli-246x300.jpg 246w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Victor Agostinelli, a doctoral student in electrical and computer engineering at Oregon State University, has been selected for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnnl.gov\/distinguished-graduate-research-programs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pacific Northwest National Laboratory &#8211; Oregon State University Distinguished Graduate Research Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of the program is to \u201cstrengthen and grow research collaborations and develop a select cohort of doctoral students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.\u201d Only 20 students whose research aligns with the U.S. Department of Energy\u2019s mission are chosen for the program each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agostinelli, who is advised by <a href=\"https:\/\/eecs.oregonstate.edu\/people\/chen-lizhong\">Lizhong Chen,<\/a> an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering in the College of Engineering, works on research to optimize and automate the placement of machine learning accelerators on integrated circuits. Agostinelli\u2019s research specifically focuses on optimizing the selection of dataflows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe multi-year funding allows Victor to pursue his passion in exploring the application of machine learning in computer architecture,\u201d said Chen. \u201cI look forward to the collaborative research that will strengthen the relationship between OSU and PNNL.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the program, Agostinelli will be appointed to an assistantship at Oregon State University for two years and will then continue his research on a fellowship at PNNL for the next two years. There, he will work with a PNNL mentor while continuing to be advised by Chen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agostinelli, a native of Portland, Ore., earned a B.S. in electrical and computer engineering at Oregon State University, where he participated in research on robotic swarms in Professor Julie A.
