I had a good experience during my last job application process and am still employed by the same company. I applied for the position through a third-party site after which I was sent to a contracted recruiter for the initial vetting process. This essentially covered all basic questions before beginning the interview process with the company’s current employees. My first interview was over the phone with my future manager because he works out of Florida. After the interview with him, I was given the green light to interview in person with the employees in the local office. I was interviewed by four people over the course of two days, three from the finance department and one from the HR department. I received an offer the following week. The overall experience left me with a good feeling about the position and the company. The length of the interview process was new to me and something I was not expecting. Out of everything with the application process, this was my least favorite part. It didn’t deter me from wanting to work there, but it did cause me to have doubts about being hired. There were a couple of positive things that stood out about the interview process. I liked how open everyone was about what it was like to work for the company, including some things that they didn’t particularly care for. I appreciated the honesty. The best part was the obvious positive chemistry amongst coworkers in the working environment when I was given a tour of the office. There was a feeling of ease I felt even as an outsider. It made me hope I would get the position because it was a team I wanted to be a part of, and I continue to feel that way.

Hi John, It is a great review of positive interview experience, I always feel that interview is not a process of interrogation but it is sharing of the experiences and to find if that job and office are good fit for both candidate and team. Behavioral aspect is more important part of technical part of candidate analysis. Thanks for sharing.

Hi John. Good to hear from you that you had a good experience with your job application and you are still employed by the company. I had a job in my home country before entering OSU as a full time student and it seems the job application process is pretty similar. However, I would also not expect the length of the interview process would be two days. When I worked three years ago, I also thought that positive chemistry amongst colleagues is a very important part of a job like you felt. It was great to read your blog and thanks for your post.

Hi John. It sounds like you had a pretty good interview process besides how dragged out it was. Multiple days is a little much. I had a similar experience during a hiring process a few years ago. It was basically a full 8-hour day. Took me an hour to drive there, toured their manufacturing plant for another hour, and had multiple panel interviews with 4 different departments from the company back to back to back, and then drove back home. It was exhausting. Not sure if it was part of their strategy but it was a bit of a deterrent for me. It’s great you were able to get along with the team so well though. Having that on your side for interviews is always a good feeling when leaving the interview but also when reflecting on the possible position. It would take a lot for me to accept a position I didn’t feel comfortable in. That teamwork and relationship goes a long way.
