Try this instead!<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open your curtains during the day to let in natural heat from the sun, then close them at night to keep heat locked in.<\/li>\n<li>Try bundling up in a cozy sweater or soft blanket before reaching for the thermostat.<\/li>\n<li>If you have to use heating, remember to turn it off when you leave your house, and while you sleep at night.<\/li>\n<li>If possible, only heat the room you are using.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Decorating? Put a new spin on things!<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use LED holiday lights! They require about 75% less energy, and last 2 times longer than traditional lights.<\/li>\n<li>Get a real Christmas tree! This will support local farmers, reduce your carbon footprint, and keep harmful plastics out of the environment.<\/li>\n<li>Do It Yourself! Deck the halls with some DIY snowflakes and other decorations made out of recycled paper.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Heading out of town? Prep your home before you leave!<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unplug all non-necessary electronic devices such as toasters, lamps, chargers, and power strips.<\/li>\n<li>You can keep pipes and appliances from freezing by setting the thermostat at just 50 degrees.<\/li>\n<li>Close all blinds and curtains to keep heat in while you\u2019re away.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Festivities!<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Buy local food and goods to support your city\u2019s economy and keep carbon emissions low.<\/li>\n<li>Use compostable or reusable serving ware if you host any parties. <a href=\"http:\/\/recycle.oregonstate.edu\/recycling\/services\/composting\/osu-compost-policy\" target=\"_blank\">Check out OSU&#8217;s new compost policy and approved compostable serving ware here<\/a>!<\/li>\n<li>Going somewhere fun?
