Corvallis offers free bus transit, and Oregon State Computer Science major, <strong>Rikki Gibson<\/strong> made an app that makes it even easier to skip the car, and ride the bus.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sta<em><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2016\/06\/Rikki-Gibson.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-9199 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2016\/06\/Rikki-Gibson-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Rikki Gibson\" width=\"153\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a><\/em>rting the summer of 2014, Rikki Gibson wrote the <strong>Corvallis Bus<\/strong> mobile (<a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/corvallis-bus\/id936262664?mt=8\" target=\"_blank\">iOS<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=osu.appclub.corvallisbus\" target=\"_blank\">Android<\/a>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/corvallisb.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">web<\/a> application. It&#8217;s a simple app for your phone that\u00a0tells when your bus is arriving to your stop. You can save arrival times for your favorite stops. Rikki\u00a0wanted a personal project, and he says, &#8220;after seeing existing apps and the website for finding bus arrival times, I had some ideas on how it could be easier to use.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Convenience\u00a0is an important concept for more sustainable actions. If it&#8217;s easy, people are more likely to\u00a0take action!\u00a0Rikki\u00a0also sees his app as &#8220;a way to <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2016\/06\/CorvallisBusScreen2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9201 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2016\/06\/CorvallisBusScreen2-169x300.png\" alt=\"CorvallisBusScreen2\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>save time waiting around at the bus stop or driving around campus or downtown looking for a place to park.&#8221; The app has been downloaded <strong>over 1500<\/strong> times and Rikki personally knows several people who\u00a0started riding the bus because the app made it more convenient to do so. Using the bus can also\u00a0save money that would otherwise be spent on gas making it <strong>economically sustainable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As technology keeps growing, we hope more people find sustainability related projects to get passionate about. Rikki hopes his app &#8220;helps people use fewer resources to get where they need to go.&#8221; All you need is your smart phone and a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/corvallisb.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">bus stop<\/a>!
