Despite this, other methods exist to live an environmentally conscience lifestyle without hurting the bank. Buying used items is an excellent way in which one can reduce their carbon footprint.<\/p>\n<p>Used materials are cheaper and reduce fossil fuel emissions by reducing demand for new products. They are also relatively easy to come by and in some instances are made with more durable materials than can currently be bought on the market.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few ideas for where to buy used:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/fa.oregonstate.edu\/surplus\/public-sales\/osused-store\">OSUsed Store during public hours<\/a>; you never know what you might find!<\/li>\n<li>Looking for used clothes? The <a href=\"http:\/\/oregonstate.edu\/womenscenter\/\">Women&#8217;s Center<\/a> hosts a clothing swap at the end of every term. Drop off clothes you no longer want, pick up some new duds, or both!<\/li>\n<li>The Corvallis Bicycle Collective sells <a href=\"http:\/\/www.corvallisbikes.org\/\">used bikes and bike parts<\/a> at affordable prices.<\/li>\n<li>New is old at <a href=\"http:\/\/corvallisfurniture.com\/about\/\">Corvallis Furniture<\/a>, where furniture is upcycled and refurbished. Aside from buying used swanky used furniture, you can even rent out a toolkit for your own projects!<\/li>\n<li>Take advantage of the <a href=\"http:\/\/sustainablecorvallis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/2014-15-ReUse-Directory-11x17.pdf\">Corvallis Sustainability Coalition&#8217;s Reuse Directory<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2015\/03\/thrift-store.jpg.662x0_q100_crop-scale.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7755\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2015\/03\/thrift-store.jpg.662x0_q100_crop-scale-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"image of a thrift store sign\" width=\"210\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a>Even if these used items do get damaged, there are people and places willing to repair them. Repair Fairs are held twice per term at the OSU Surplus Warehouse and are a great way to get your items repaired instead of going out and purchasing new materials.
