Only one post per person, please.<\/p>\n<h3>Question of the Week<\/h3>\n<p>At the Coffin Butte landfill, methane is harvested and used to produce electricity. <span style=\"color: #008000\">About how many average-sized homes could be powered from the energy produced this way?<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000\">Answer<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Around 4,000 homes could be powered from the energy captured from our landfill gas emissions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Methane is created naturally as materials decompose in the landfill. The gas created at landfills account for approximately 18.2 percent of human-related methane emissions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Methane itself is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
