{"id":5979,"date":"2014-07-17T12:36:08","date_gmt":"2014-07-17T19:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oregonstate.edu\/sustainability\/blog\/?p=5979"},"modified":"2014-07-17T12:36:08","modified_gmt":"2014-07-17T19:36:08","slug":"corvallis-recycling-block-captains-needed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/2014\/07\/17\/corvallis-recycling-block-captains-needed\/","title":{"rendered":"Corvallis Recycling Block Captains Needed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Sustainability\u00a0Coalition\u2019s Waste Prevention Action Team is inviting Corvallis residents to participate in the Recycling Block Captains program.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5980\" title=\"Block Captain\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2014\/07\/Door.jpg\" alt=\"Block Captain\" width=\"157\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As a recycling block captain, you can help educate your neighbors about recycling, composting, and waste prevention, as well as encourage their full participation in the opportunities that Republic Services is currently providing.\u00a0The time commitment is 1-5 hours<span style=\"color: #262626;font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;font-size: 15px;line-height: 24.639999389648438px;background-color: #fdfcfb\"> every three to five months<\/span> (depending on how many homes you choose to cover), so it\u2019s both easy and very beneficial to the neighborhoods that are served.<\/p>\n<p>Recycling block captains have two primary responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Distribute recycling information to your neighbors 3-4      times per year.<\/li>\n<li>Serve as a liaison between your neighbors and the      Coalition\u2019s Waste Prevention Action Team (i.e. pickup your handouts      quarterly and help answer your neighbors\u2019 questions if\/when they arise).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The Coalition provides the handouts; you define your own neighborhood (number of homes and location).
