Hall Move-out Donation Drive this year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2014\/07\/2014-MO-results-infographic.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5939\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2014\/07\/2014-MO-results-infographic-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"2014 MO results infographic\" width=\"216\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/2114\/files\/2014\/07\/2014-MO-results-infographic-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/2114\/files\/2014\/07\/2014-MO-results-infographic-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/2114\/files\/2014\/07\/2014-MO-results-infographic-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/2114\/files\/2014\/07\/2014-MO-results-infographic.jpg 1067w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 216px) 100vw, 216px\" \/><\/a>The weights by category are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>10,027 pounds of housewares<\/li>\n<li>1,897 pounds of food, toiletries, and school supplies<\/li>\n<li>6,664 pounds of clothing, bedding, and linens.<\/li>\n<li>3,820 pounds of wood<\/li>\n<li>296 pounds of electronic waste (not counted in donation total because it was recycled)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This year saw an increase in the amount of housewares that were donated, but large decreases in the other categories. The amount of E-waste which was collected remained about the same from last year.<\/p>\n<p>It is uncertain what caused the decrease in donations, but some possible examples include less waste being generated (ie, students taking belongings home early) or donatable items being thrown away.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2014\/07\/Donations-over-Time1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5953 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2014\/07\/Donations-over-Time1.jpg\" alt=\"Donations over Time\" width=\"418\" height=\"235\" srcset=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/2114\/files\/2014\/07\/Donations-over-Time1.jpg 633w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/2114\/files\/2014\/07\/Donations-over-Time1-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 418px) 100vw, 418px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">While this did not meet our goal of 28,000 pounds, it still exceeded the 2012 weight, as well as last year&#8217;s goal of 22,000 pounds. Over the past five years, OSU has diverted nearly 100,000 pounds of belongings from the landfill through the donation drive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">A total of 27 volunteers from the community helped sort the donations into their respective categories. The donations were given to local nonprofit organizations, such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heartlandhumane.org\/\">Heartland Humane Society<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pep.peak.org\/\">Parent Enhancement Program<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/communityservices.us\/nutrition\/detail\/category\/linn-benton-food-share\/\">Linn Benton Food Share<\/a>. A portion of the donations were also resold at the <a href=\"http:\/\/surplus.oregonstate.edu\/public\/osused\">OSUsed Store<\/a> to help cover the costs of collecting them throughout the donation drive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">We&#8217;d like to thank the students of OSU for once again making the donation drive a successful event, as well as all of the volunteers for helping us pick up and sort through all of the donations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Visit the<a href=\"http:\/\/recycle.oregonstate.edu\/opportunities\/moveout\/history\"> Move-out History page <\/a>on our website to learn more about the results from previous years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><em>The Res.
