{"id":5502,"date":"2014-05-11T08:15:09","date_gmt":"2014-05-11T15:15:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oregonstate.edu\/sustainability\/blog\/?p=5502"},"modified":"2014-05-11T08:15:09","modified_gmt":"2014-05-11T15:15:09","slug":"alternative-zero-week-trip-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/2014\/05\/11\/alternative-zero-week-trip-opportunity\/","title":{"rendered":"Alternative Zero Week Trip Opportunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Trip Basics:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5507\" title=\"Alt spring break\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2014\/05\/Alt-spring-break1.jpg\" alt=\"Alt spring break\" width=\"286\" height=\"218\" \/><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2014 Alternative Break Trip \u2013 Zero Week, Monday June 16th to Friday June 20th<\/p>\n<p>Exploring Cultural Engagement, Policy Issues, &amp; Community Wellbeing: Warm Springs, Oregon<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Trip Cost: $75\u00a0 (includes 4 dinners &amp; 1 lunch)<\/p>\n<h3>The Details<\/h3>\n<p>Discover various factors impacting cultural engagement, tribal policy and community well being in Warm Springs by exploring elements of tribal governance, food sourcing, and community and cultural activities.\u00a0 Through educational sessions and direct service work, we will explore community gardens and sustainability, tribal government and jurisprudence, economic development and social and cultural events that all impact the livability of the Warm Springs area.\u00a0 During our trip activities will likely include educational sessions covering a wide range of topics related to tribal life, challenges, and solutions.\u00a0 Some opportunities include working on landscaping at a senior living facility, working at a community garden, hiking on the reservation, learning about the services and programs put on by OSU Extension for the community, and visiting the Museum at Warm Springs.\u00a0 We will be visiting with the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation, home to the\u00a0 Warm Springs, Wasco, and Paiute tribes, the Warm Springs Reservation is inhabited by nearly 4,000 tribal members, most of whom live in or around the town of Warm Springs.<\/p>\n<p>This trip will be run as a collaboration between Intercultural Student Services and the Center for Civic Engagement; this program will include students that are a part of the International Indigenous Policy Course and interested at large students.<\/p>\n<p>Note:\u00a0 Lodging will be the Kahneeta Resort &amp; Spa. Trip fee includes transportation, lodging, 1 lunch, and 4 dinners that will be prepared and shared together as a group.\u00a0 You will be responsible for your meals on travel days as well as for purchasing materials for meals not provide.\u00a0 There will be a space available to prepare breakfast, pack a lunch, and cook dinner.
