{"id":411,"date":"2010-11-23T18:19:36","date_gmt":"2010-11-24T01:19:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oregonstate.edu\/sustainability\/blog\/2010\/11\/tap-water%e2%80%a6good-for-your-personal-health-and-the-health-of-the-environment\/"},"modified":"2010-11-23T18:19:36","modified_gmt":"2010-11-24T01:19:36","slug":"tap-watergood-for-your-personal-health-and-the-health-of-the-environment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/2010\/11\/23\/tap-watergood-for-your-personal-health-and-the-health-of-the-environment\/","title":{"rendered":"Tap Water\u2026good for your personal health and the health of the environment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is the message that a  group of student leaders, graduate students and professional faculty members interested in environmental sustainability and health promotion efforts want to send to the OSU community.<\/p>\n<p>Recent funding from Pacific Source\u2019s Healthy Life Challenge has been a catalyst for education\/health promotion efforts and program incentives with the aim of increasing physical activity, encouraging healthy eating and decreasing smoking on the OSU campus.  The group tentatively named the \u201cWater Bottle Committee\u201d is working on an education and incentive campaign to make tap water the #1 beverage choice for Beav\u2019s.   The vision is to make the practice of using water bottle woven into the identity of OSU because we care about our health and the health of the environment.   The work of this committee is focused on three main areas:<\/p>\n<p>1.\tIncreasing access to reusable water bottles and filtered water at OSU<br \/>\n2.\tWorking with major event organizers to make tap water the #1 choice<br \/>\n3.\tEducating and promoting the OSU community on the benefits of tap water (decreases waste, it is a healthy alternative to sugary beverages\/energy drinks, etc)<br \/>\nThe education campaign to promote tap water is (tentatively) planned to start Winter term.
