On August 14, the Sustainability Office staff had the pleasure of connecting with community members at Open Streets Corvallis<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open Streets Corvallis<\/a> is a free street festival that re-imagines our most shared public spaces \u2013 streets and parks \u2013 as places where people walk, bike, and play. The event features live music, dance, fitness activities, games, food, and more! By positively impacting community livability, improving the health and wellness of Corvallis residents, supporting the local economy, and increasing awareness of alternative transportation options, Open Streets advances sustainability in our community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Open Streets, the Sustainability Office provided power to the KidSpirit inflatables and Dance Stage sound equipment with the Solar Trailer and hosted an energy efficiency demonstration with the Bike Generator. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By pedaling the bike generator, you can power anything from lightbulbs to small electronics. How does it work? The generator powers an inverter, which creates the same type of electricity as a household plug. The onboard battery provides short-term energy storage so you can take a quick break from pedaling without losing power. The more you plug in, the higher resistance you will feel on the bike!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sustainability Office staff loved the enthusiasm for sustainable transportation and the outdoors felt at Open Streets. The student employees also enjoyed watching everyone attempt to power the 300 Watt lightbulb with the Bike Generator!
